Before You Scan Your Ticket: Disney Warns Guests of Major Front-Gate Disruptions

For generations of theme park enthusiasts, crossing the Esplanade between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure has marked the ceremonial start of a magical vacation. But if you are planning a trip to the Anaheim resort in the coming months, your grand entry might come with a side of heavy machinery, winding detours, and crowded entry bottlenecks.

Disneyland Resort has issued an official warning to visitors, alerting them that major construction at the main park entrances could affect crowd movement, alter pedestrian walkways, and change security routines. As crews demolish legacy infrastructure to prepare for massive future expansions, guests are being urged to pack extra patience and adjust their morning arrival strategies.

The Official Warning: What Disney Is Cautioning Guests About

The notice, featured on Disneyland Resort’s official operational updates platform, informs parkgoers that a sweeping physical transformation of the East Esplanade entrance area is underway. As part of a multi-phase infrastructure project, the entrance layout is being regularly updated.

In its official guidance to theme park visitors, Disney explicitly warned:

“The East Esplanade Security screening area will temporarily shift into that location in Fall 2026. Construction walls may result in temporary walkway adjustments to and from the theme park main entrances.”

Disney further added that active construction in the eastern portion of the Esplanade “may temporarily impact how Guests move through the theme park entrance area.”

While construction barriers are a common sight in theme parks, placing them directly across the main entry corridor poses a unique challenge. Corridors that accommodated thousands of eager morning visitors last season are now constrained by temporary fencing, forcing cast members to direct shifting crowd flows daily.

Demolition at the Turnstiles: Legacy Ticket Booths Torn Down

The primary driver behind the current entry congestion is the removal of the East Esplanade’s legacy ticket booths. For decades, these iconic brick booths served as the primary physical point of sale for park tickets, pass upgrades, and customer service inquiries.

To make room for revised security layouts and upgraded entry capacity, construction crews have dismantled four of these long-standing ticket structures.

In their place, Disney is temporarily relocating its East Security screening checkpoints directly into the newly cleared footprint. Shifting security operations to the former ticket booth area allows the resort to maintain screening capacity while the surrounding grounds are prepped for heavy foundation work. However, because these security setups are fluid, line configurations and queue pathways can vary from morning to morning.

How Construction Detours Impact Every Arrival Method

No matter how you plan to travel to the resort, the current entrance work is likely to influence your walking route once you reach the perimeter:

  • Pedestrians from Harbor Boulevard: Visitors walking in from off-property hotels along Harbor Boulevard face some of the narrowest temporary walkways. Disney recommends leaving early to account for slower foot traffic through narrowed entry chutes.
  • Toy Story Shuttle Passengers: Guests taking the bus shuttle from the Toy Story Parking Lot will find their drop-off location slightly north along Harbor Boulevard, adding a short extra walk to reach security.
  • Parking Structure Tram Riders: Visitors arriving via tram from the Mickey & Friends and Pixar Pals structures encounter construction walls in the western plaza near Downtown Disney, right where morning “rope drop” crowds merge.
  • Rideshare Drop-Offs: The Downtown Disney rideshare zone has been updated, with select passenger drop-off lanes adjusted to manage traffic around heavy construction vehicles.

Accessibility Services Relocated to Ticket Booth 6

To help guests who need specialized assistance before passing through security screening, Disney has consolidated its entrance customer service operations.

All East Esplanade Guest Relations and Disability Access Services (DAS) inquiries have been moved to Ticket Booth 6. Guests who need mobility accommodations, DAS support, or ticketing help before entering security are encouraged to head directly to Booth 6 upon arrival, avoiding the need to backtrack through crowded temporary queues.

The Long-Term Goal: DisneylandForward’s Eastern Gateway

Why is Disney subjecting its front entrance to such substantial disruption? The demolition and security shifting are crucial early milestones for the $1.9 billion DisneylandForward initiative approved by the City of Anaheim.

The current construction lays the foundation for a state-of-the-art Eastern Gateway, an expansive project designed to modernize the resort’s infrastructure. Planned features include:

  • A multi-story parking garage built east of Harbor Boulevard.
  • A central transit terminal dedicated to buses, shuttles, and rideshares.
  • An elevated pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard, allowing guests to walk directly into the Esplanade above street traffic.
  • A permanent, high-capacity security screening pavilion located beneath the new bridge.

While the result promises a streamlined entry experience, the multi-year construction timeline means guests should expect entrance detours to remain for the foreseeable future.

Essential Survival Tips for Navigating Entrance Construction

To ensure these entry detours do not throw off your vacation schedule, keep these practical tips in mind:

  • Add 30 Minutes to Your Arrival Time: Plan to reach the security screening area well before park opening to absorb any entrance delays.
  • Check the Official Disneyland App: Live park notices and digital map updates can alert you to sudden changes in pathways.
  • Follow cast member Instructions: Ground staff is deployed throughout the Esplanade to guide guest traffic smoothly around active work zones.
  • Head directly to Booth 6 for DAS Needs: Save time by navigating straight to Ticket Booth 6 if you require Guest Relations assistance before bag check.

Understanding the entrance layout before you arrive ensures that a few temporary construction walls will not stand between you and a memorable day at Disneyland.
