Disneyland Confirms Security Relocation as Construction Reshapes Entrance

Disneyland Resort has confirmed another temporary change to the way guests enter its Anaheim theme parks. As construction reshapes the eastern side of the Esplanade between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park, Disney says the East Security screening area will move into the space occupied by the east-side ticket booths after those booths are removed.
The update matters most for guests approaching from Harbor Boulevard, including pedestrians from nearby hotels. Disney warns that construction walls may temporarily alter walkways to and from the main entrances. What Disney has not announced is how long the relocated checkpoint will operate there, whether screening capacity will change, or whether guests should expect longer waits.
Disneyland East Security Is Moving During Esplanade Construction
Disney’s official construction and closures page now tells guests to plan ahead for changes near the theme park entrances. Under its Esplanade construction notice, the resort says east-side ticket booths will be removed beginning in fall, East Security will temporarily shift into that location, and construction walls may force temporary walkway adjustments.

Disney has not published an end date for this particular security arrangement, so it would be premature to treat the relocated checkpoint as the permanent configuration of Disneyland’s Harbor-side entrance.
Why Harbor Boulevard Guests Could Feel the Change Most
The East Security checkpoint sits on a critical arrival path. Disney’s transportation guidance says hotel shuttles and public buses use the East Shuttle Area near Harbor Boulevard, while guests can also walk to the parks via Harbor Boulevard. Disney separately says the Toy Story Parking Area shuttle drop-off will remain in the East Esplanade but move slightly north, closer to Harbor Boulevard.
Moving screening into a construction-affected zone while nearby walkways can also change creates the potential for unfamiliar routing during busy arrival periods. It does not, however, establish that severe delays will occur.
Inside the Magic’s Disneyland Resort guide for guests has previously noted that many Good Neighbor Hotels are located along Harbor Boulevard, making the eastern approach a common route for hotel guests walking to the parks.
Rope-drop visitors may want extra flexibility until the new circulation pattern becomes familiar. Disney has not issued a specific recommendation to arrive earlier because of this project, nor has it announced reduced screening lanes.
Ticket Booth Removal Is Part of a Much Bigger Arrival Project
The construction connects to a much larger transformation. Disney announced in June 2025 that it plans a new east-side parking structure and transportation hub on part of the Manchester cast member parking lot.
According to Disney’s official expansion announcement, the future hub will provide approximately 6,000 parking spaces, shuttle and rideshare areas, security screening, and dedicated vehicle access from Disney Way. A pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard will connect the project toward a new Esplanade arrival experience while maintaining public access to and from Harbor Boulevard.

Anaheim’s DisneylandForward planning framework provides broader context as well. The city says DisneylandForward was approved in 2024 and allows additional parking east and north of the parks, along with potential pedestrian bridges across Harbor Boulevard and Disneyland Drive.
Construction Could Complicate a Familiar Morning Routine
For guests, the immediate issue is that a familiar approach to both parks may look different while walls, paths, and screening positions shift.
That matters because security is not optional. Disneyland states that it conducts bag checks and maintains security checkpoints at its theme park entrances, Downtown Disney District, and resort hotels. A temporary relocation therefore changes a mandatory step in the arrival process, even if the underlying screening requirement remains the same.
Recent transportation changes have already put more attention on east-side arrivals. Inside the Magic reported earlier this year on a shuttle arrangement routing participating hotel guests through the Toy Story Parking Area before Disney buses carry them toward the Esplanade.
Disney’s notice acknowledges possible walkway adjustments; it does not forecast crowd levels, publish new queue capacities, or warn that rope drop will be delayed. Any claim that the project will necessarily create massive lines would go beyond the information Disney has released. The practical impact could vary by time of day, crowd conditions, and the routing Disney ultimately uses.
What Disneyland Guests Should Watch Next
The next meaningful update will be operational: when East Security actually moves, what the temporary pedestrian routing looks like, and how long that setup remains in place. Disney’s construction page currently gives the seasonal “starting in fall” timeframe for the ticket-booth removal and security shift but no completion date for the temporary arrangement.
Guests planning a Disneyland Resort visit should check Disney’s construction and closures page close to their trip and follow posted signs and Cast Member directions when arriving at the Esplanade. The eastern entrance is clearly in transition, but the scale of any real-world bottleneck will only become clear once the temporary checkpoint is operating and guest traffic begins moving through the revised layout.
