This definitely put the “oh” in “ohana”.

The Walt Disney World Resort continues to evolve, with new experiences on the horizon and occasional surprises along the way. One such moment occurred on June 6, 2025, when guests with dinner reservations at ‘Ohana—located in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort in the Magic Kingdom area of Disney World—received unexpected notifications via the My Disney Experience app: the restaurant would not be open that evening.

While Disney has not shared an official explanation for the sudden closure, some nearby guests, as reported by Kenny the Pirate, mentioned detecting a smoky odor in the area. The closure caused many visitors to quickly pivot to new plans for the night. ‘Ohana, beloved for its island-inspired, family-style meals and spirited setting inside the resort’s Great Ceremonial House, is a favorite dining destination for many Disney fans. The restaurant’s Character Breakfast, featuring Lilo, Stitch, and other favorites, remains a major draw—although characters are only available during the morning hours.

This isn’t the first time ‘Ohana has faced brief interruptions. In the past, the location has temporarily closed due to fire alarms, suspected gas leaks, and other precautionary measures. On at least one occasion, the Great Ceremonial House was fully evacuated.

Meanwhile, the Polynesian Village Resort has also seen new developments, including the recent debut of the Island Tower expansion, part of Disney Vacation Club. Even as some locations close temporarily, the resort continues to expand and refresh its offerings for future visits.

Elsewhere across Walt Disney World Resort, guests are also adjusting to bigger changes on the horizon. The Magic Kingdom is preparing for its most ambitious expansion yet with the addition of Piston Peak National Park, inspired by the Cars and Planes films. This new land will lead to the closure of Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, effective July 7.

These updates come as Disney continues to enhance all four parks, likely in response to both guest expectations and the upcoming debut of Universal’s Epic Universe. Though these long-term projects may take years to complete, Walt Disney World still has plenty for guests to enjoy in the meantime—from EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind to the always popular Avatar Flight of Passage in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Sunset Boulevard strolls in Disney’s Hollywood Studios to character dining at Magic Kingdom resort-area hotels.

Despite occasional shifts, dining reservations, and closures, the magic continues to thrive across the resort. With the hope that ‘Ohana resumes service today, June 7, guests look forward to making more cherished memories—especially with Lilo and Stitch continuing to make waves on-screen and in the parks.

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »

  1. Yes, my plans and my family’s plans of you. Don’t want to come and I said, I’m already men have been interrupted by whatever more than once and yeah, for our family was yearly annual pass orders. There’s 3 still left because they invested in Bay lakes. You know, with the point system or however, it works. I stayed there one time with him. And the only thing I liked about it was was I could walk right out and walk right over to the magic Kingdom. Even though I’m 60, the magic Kingdom is still the best part for me. Except they got rid of splash mountain. Because somebody he thinks that it’s racist that all they’d done was put, uh, uh, the books that Walt read the uncle, Remo’s books. It’s a shame by doing something like that they could have put Tiana, some other place. I got nothing wrong with the black princess. And doing away, and now I’m gonna put the cars thing in there, we’re the riverboat. He is, I’m not really happy with it. I didn’t like that. They took out the shooting range, just to give it for guests, to see if I could find out who are members and things. So, you know, and it appears that the bears hopefully gonna stay, but they had to change one of the Bear’s name. So we get politically correct and get with the wokes and the dei people.
