CONFIRMED: Disney World Restarts Retired Airport Service for Resort Guests
After months of quiet testing, Walt Disney World has officially relaunched a popular convenience for travelers flying with Southwest Airlines: the Airport Luggage Delivery Service. New signage and a dedicated webpage now confirm that the program is fully operational at Disney’s Value Resorts.
Quiet Beginnings at Pop Century
Back in March, Disney began quietly piloting a limited version of its old Resort Airline Check-In service at Disney’s Pop Century Resort. Operated by Bag Check, a third-party company founded by the former owner of Bags, Inc., the service was offered to select guests without any signage or official communication. Word of mouth among visitors was the only way to learn about it.
Fast forward to now: the service has expanded to all Value Resorts, and Disney has formally recognized it across official channels, signaling that the Airport Luggage Delivery Service is officially here to stay — at least for the summer season and potentially longer.
How the New Airport Luggage Delivery Works
Guests staying at Disney’s Value Resorts can now drop off their luggage right at the Luggage Assistance desk before heading to Orlando International Airport.
Here’s how it works:
Bags are checked directly at the resort.
They are securely delivered to the guest’s Southwest Airlines flight.
Guests are free to travel to the airport without carrying checked baggage.
It’s important to note that this service only covers departure flights. Disney is not currently offering bag transportation from the airport to the resort for incoming guests — only from the resort to the plane.
Who’s Eligible and What You Need
To take advantage of the service, here’s what guests should know:
Airline: Only available to travelers flying with Southwest Airlines out of Orlando International Airport.
Resorts: Guests must be staying at a participating Value Resort (Pop Century, All-Star Resorts, or Art of Animation) the night before their flight.
Flight Check-In: Guests must be checked in for their flight and have paid any baggage fees ahead of time.
Drop-off Times:
- Flights before 1 PM require bags to be checked in the night prior.
- Flights after 1 PM allow same-day bag check-in at least four hours before departure.
- ID: A valid photo ID is required at the time of drop-off.
- Access: Once bags are checked, they cannot be retrieved until arrival at the final destination.
New Signs Make It Official
The biggest update? New signage is now installed in the lobbies of Value Resorts, making it easier for guests to find and use the service. At Pop Century, the signage features the recognizable Southwest Airlines logo and includes a scannable QR code that directs guests to Disney’s new Airport Luggage Delivery webpage.
Until now, the service operated entirely under the radar. With these official updates, Disney is making sure more guests can take advantage of the perk during their stay.
Still No Added Cost for Guests
Good news for travelers watching their budget: despite concerns that Disney might charge a fee for this returning convenience, the Airport Luggage Delivery service remains free of charge for eligible guests.
Considering the trend of Disney monetizing other previously free offerings (like Genie+ replacing FastPass+), it’s refreshing to see this service offered at no additional cost — at least for now.
A Step Toward Restoring the “Disney Bubble”
While the new Airport Luggage Delivery service is a bit more limited compared to the old Resort Airline Check-In program, it’s still a major win for Disney fans hoping to see more pre-pandemic conveniences make a return.
Guests are still hopeful that Disney will bring back more full-scale perks, like Magical Express. In the meantime, the restoration of luggage delivery — even in this partial form — shows that Disney is taking real steps to improve the end-of-trip experience for its on-site guests.
