Disney World Resort Restrictions Are Still in Place, But Guests Find a Way Around Them

Resort-hopping can be one of the easiest ways to add something different to a Walt Disney World vacation without buying another ticket or making another park plan.

Take the Monorail around Magic Kingdom, explore a few hotels, and grab something to eat along the way. It’s a routine plenty of repeat visitors know well.

One Disney World restriction can make that routine a little more complicated, though.

Guests who aren’t staying at three popular Disney resorts may encounter a Mobile Order warning. While that message remains in place, there’s currently a way to get past it.

Mobile Order Comes With a Catch

The restriction centers around three hotels on the Magic Kingdom Monorail loop: Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

Disney has previously restricted Mobile Order at these resorts to guests actually staying at the respective property.

That means someone staying at another Disney World hotel—or somewhere off-property—could open the My Disney Experience app and discover they can’t simply place an order as expected.

For frequent visitors, that’s a potentially frustrating limitation.

Quick-service locations at these resorts can be part of the appeal of spending time outside the theme parks. Capt. Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Contempo Cafe at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa are all convenient options.

Guests Are Getting Past the Warning

The unusual part is what happens when guests encounter the restriction today.

The My Disney Experience app can still display a warning indicating Mobile Order is reserved for guests staying at the resort.

Normally, you might assume that’s where your attempt ends.

Apparently, it doesn’t.

Guests can tap “OK” and continue. The app then allows them to choose a pickup time and proceed with building their Mobile Order.

That’s a pretty important detail if you’re planning to eat while resort-hopping.

The warning may make it appear that you’re blocked from ordering, but the current system doesn’t necessarily enforce that restriction once you dismiss the message.

Resort-Hoppers Should Still Be Careful

This doesn’t mean guests should assume the restriction has permanently disappeared.

Disney has changed its approach to Mobile Order restrictions at these resorts before. The limits have a tendency to become more relevant when crowds increase.

That’s why the warning remaining in the app is worth watching.

Disney already has the mechanism to limit Mobile Order access. Even though guests can currently move past the message, the restriction could become enforceable again.

And that could affect more than just where you eat.

If you’re leaving Magic Kingdom specifically because you’ve planned a meal at one of the nearby resorts, discovering that you can’t Mobile Order could change your schedule.

There’s Still Another Option

Even if Disney begins enforcing the Mobile Order restriction again, that doesn’t necessarily mean non-resort guests can’t purchase food.

Guests can also order directly at the restaurant counter when that option is available.

Mobile Order simply makes everything easier. You can choose your food ahead of time and coordinate your pickup with your arrival.

For now, the best advice is to check the My Disney Experience app before making a special trip.

If you encounter the resort-guest warning, don’t immediately change your plans. Try dismissing it first.

Right now, that restriction might look like a roadblock, but Disney World guests have discovered that getting around it can be as simple as tapping “OK.”
