Another sweltering day has arrived at Walt Disney World.
Summer weather is nothing new in Central Florida, but this week’s hot conditions have pushed temperatures into territory that is forcing major theme parks to rethink parts of their daily operations.
For three consecutive days, extreme heat has dominated the forecast, creating difficult conditions for millions of vacationers and the thousands of cast members working outside across Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Disney has already responded with a series of operational adjustments designed to reduce prolonged sun exposure for both employees and guests.
Portable cooling fans have been distributed to cast members stationed outdoors. Entertainment has also been modified, with midday performances of Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire shortened and the Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade shifting all costumed characters onto floats rather than having them walk parade routes.
Those measures now appear likely to remain in place as Central Florida enters a third straight day under an official National Weather Service heat advisory.
Florida Heat Warning Continues Across Walt Disney World
The National Weather Service has issued another heat advisory for East Central Florida, effective from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday.
Forecast highs are expected to reach the mid to upper 90s, while heat index values — the “feels like” temperature — could climb to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
The region’s HeatRisk remains at Major to Extreme, indicating conditions that can affect anyone without adequate cooling or hydration.
Orlando is forecast to reach 97 degrees on Saturday, alongside a 50% chance of rain.
Officials are urging residents and visitors to drink water before they feel thirsty, wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, spend time in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest hours of the day.
The forecast also includes scattered showers and thunderstorms, with rain chances ranging between 30% and 60%.
Storms developing later in the afternoon could produce frequent lightning, wind gusts of up to 55 mph, and heavy rainfall.
Officials also continue to remind the public never to leave children or pets unattended inside vehicles, even for a short period.
While Disney has not announced any additional operational changes beyond those already introduced, the current measures appear likely to continue while the advisory remains in effect.
Other Disney resorts have taken even more significant steps during periods of extreme weather.
Earlier this week, Disneyland Paris suspended its nighttime fireworks through July 15 after local authorities introduced a regional pyrotechnics ban because of elevated fire risks.
The resort also temporarily removed costumed characters from Disney Stars on Parade, adjusted several outdoor character greetings, and closed select outdoor attractions to reduce heat exposure for performers and guests.
Staying Safe During a Disney Park Visit
For guests visiting Walt Disney World during the heatwave, avoiding prolonged outdoor exposure remains the safest option.
The hottest part of the day typically falls between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., making that an ideal time to take breaks inside air-conditioned restaurants, attractions, shops, or Disney Resort hotel lobbies.
Guests with fixed park plans can also reshape their itineraries around indoor attractions.
Magic Kingdom offers an abundance of air-conditioned experiences, including Pirates of the Caribbean and Mickey’s PhilharMagic.
At EPCOT, Frozen Ever After provides welcome relief from the heat inside the Norway Pavilion. The Land Pavilion is also ideal in hot weather.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios also offers several indoor options, including Star Tours: The Adventures Continue and For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration.
Outdoor queues are another factor worth considering.
Popular attractions, including Slinky Dog Dash, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Kilimanjaro Safaris, and Kali River Rapids, can involve lengthy waits in direct sunlight or humid outdoor conditions, particularly during the afternoon.
Mobile ordering meals, taking advantage of shaded indoor shows, and returning to major attractions later in the evening can also help reduce time spent in the heat.
