On Tuesday, Walt Disney World Resort issued a public apology ahead of Magic Kingdom fireworks testing. The Central Florida Disney park hoped to avoid “sporadic” explosions alarming neighbors after midnight on early Wednesday.
Fireworks delight guests nightly at Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. For the safety of the animals, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park doesn’t offer nighttime entertainment. However, Disney Springs recently premiered a drone show, Disney Dreams That Soar.
EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios tend to perform their evening spectaculars, Luminous The Symphony of Us (World Showcase Lagoon) and Fantasmic! (Hollywood Hills Amphitheater), year-round, while Magic Kingdom Park updates its fireworks show seasonally.
Most of the year, guests enjoy Happily Ever After over Cinderella Castle, but they can also catch holiday-exclusive offerings like Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular, New Year’s Eve fireworks, Fourth of July fireworks, and Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Show.
Because Magic Kingdom Park is open most of the day, entertainment and technical cast members practice performances in the middle of the night. New performers march repeatedly down Main Street, U.S.A., in the early morning hours or perform on the Cinderella Castle stage before sunrise.
The same goes for fireworks show testing. It’s necessary to test new shows and updated special effects before executing them in front of tens of thousands of guests, but the time frame presents a unique issue for those living near Walt Disney World Resort.
Magic Kingdom Park apologized to its Central Florida neighbors this week for testing fireworks after midnight. On Tuesday afternoon, Walt Disney World Resort posted the statement on its “Walt Disney World Cast and Community” Facebook page. It reads:
Apologies to our neighbors and guests for some noise after midnight tonight due to sporadic firework testing at Magic Kingdom.
Walt Disney World Resort didn’t disclose which fireworks show Magic Kingdom Park cast members were testing on Tuesday evening. With Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party quickly approaching, it’s possible that the Disney park was preparing for exclusive entertainment offered during the special ticketed events.
