Disney World guests planning a visit to one of the resort’s most popular hotels may need to make some changes to their vacation plans.
While temporary closures are nothing unusual at Walt Disney World, they can become frustrating when reopening dates continue to change. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what’s happening at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

A popular outdoor lounge that was supposed to reopen in late October will now remain closed for several additional weeks, affecting guests visiting during Thanksgiving and the beginning of the Christmas season.
Disney World Pushes Back Reopening Until December
Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will remain closed through mid-December 2026, following an update to Disney’s official refurbishment schedule.
Previously, Disney expected the outdoor lounge to remain unavailable through late October. However, the latest announcement adds approximately seven weeks to the closure.
That means guests who were looking forward to visiting the location during November will have to find another place to relax.
The extended closure is connected to ongoing refurbishment work at the Great Ceremonial House, the Polynesian’s main building.

Because Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace sits beside the building, construction has prevented the outdoor bar from reopening.
Disney has not announced an exact reopening date, meaning mid-December remains the current estimated timeframe rather than a guaranteed opening day.
For visitors who specifically enjoy spending time at the outdoor lounge, the additional delay is disappointing.
Why Guests Love Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has become a popular destination for guests who want to enjoy Disney World without spending every moment inside a theme park.
The resort offers tropical landscaping, beautiful surroundings, and several well-known dining locations.
Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace adds to that atmosphere by giving visitors an outdoor setting where they can enjoy tropical cocktails and relax.
Unlike the indoor Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, the terrace offers a more casual experience.

Guests don’t have to sit inside a heavily themed lounge to enjoy the Polynesian’s atmosphere.
Instead, they can spend time outdoors while taking a break from the crowds and excitement of the parks.
Unfortunately, the extended closure means that experience will remain unavailable during a particularly busy stretch of the year.
Another Trader Sam’s Location Remains Open
The good news is that Disney hasn’t closed everything associated with Trader Sam’s.
Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, the indoor lounge at the Polynesian, remains open.
This location features themed drinks, interactive effects, and an immersive environment that makes it popular among Disney fans.
However, Grog Grotto has limited seating, and guests may encounter waits before entering.
For visitors who prefer the more relaxed outdoor atmosphere of the Tiki Terrace, the indoor lounge may not provide exactly the same experience.
Still, it gives guests another option while refurbishment work continues.
Disney has also confirmed that most of the Polynesian’s restaurants, pools, and other amenities will remain available.
Construction Will Continue Into 2027
The extended Trader Sam’s closure is only one part of the ongoing work at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
Disney has confirmed that refurbishment projects affecting the Polynesian and Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will continue through early 2027.
Some views of the theme parks and surrounding areas may also be affected.

For guests staying at the resort, that means construction could remain part of the experience for several more months.
However, Disney has not announced any plans to close the entire hotel.
As for Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace, visitors will have to wait until at least the current mid-December reopening window.
With Thanksgiving and the early Christmas season now affected, guests should check Disney’s latest resort updates before making plans to visit the popular outdoor lounge.
