Disney World Blocks Access at Resort Location Effective Immediately

As Central Florida heads into another stretch of intense summer heat, Walt Disney World Resort is tightening access to one of its most popular hotel amenities.

Guests visiting Disney’s Port Orleans Resort are now seeing a new pool entry procedure at one of the resort’s main recreation areas, as Disney tests additional measures designed to reserve the space for eligible resort guests.

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort has long been a favorite among Moderate Resort guests thanks to its picturesque setting along the Sassagoula River, distinct New Orleans-inspired theming, and the unique arrangement of its two sections: Riverside and French Quarter.

Now, visitors are noticing a change at Doubloon Lagoon, the themed feature pool located at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter. Reports indicate that cast members are stationed near the pool entrance, where they are checking resort reservations and providing wristbands to approved guests before allowing entry.

While Walt Disney World has always maintained policies restricting pool hopping between resorts, enforcement methods have differed from hotel to hotel over the years. The new system at Port Orleans suggests Disney is taking a closer look at how those rules are being applied during one of the busiest times of the year.

Despite the new verification process, Disney has not altered one of the most popular benefits available to Port Orleans guests. Visitors staying at either Port Orleans Riverside or Port Orleans French Quarter can continue to use recreational amenities at both sections of the resort, including their pools.

The change specifically impacts guests who are not staying at either Port Orleans property.

As Kenny the Pirate reports: “A sign is now posted outside the Doubloon Lagoon Pool stating, ‘Welcome! The Doubloon Lagoon Pool is for the exclusive use of Disney’s Port Orleans Resort Guests only,'”

The report continues: “A cast member is stationed by the gate, checking for resort reservations and issuing wristbands,” they continue. “Disney’s Port Orleans Guests are welcome to use pools at both Riverside and French Quarter. However, if you do not have a reservation at either of these resorts, you will be unable to enter the Doubloon Lagoon pool.”

Several resort pools already operate under similar systems. The most notable example is Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and Beach Club Resort, where guest verification and wristbands have long been used due to the popularity of the sprawling aquatic complex. Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort has also implemented comparable controls in recent years.

Many guests staying at Port Orleans may welcome the added oversight. Doubloon Lagoon is widely considered one of the standout pool complexes among Disney’s Moderate Resorts, featuring a sea serpent-themed waterslide and a large pool area that attracts families throughout the year.

Limiting access to eligible guests could help keep crowds manageable while ensuring resort visitors can enjoy one of the amenities included with their stay.

Summer is traditionally one of the busiest seasons for Disney resort pools, with many guests splitting their vacation time between the parks and hotel recreation areas. As temperatures climb, pools often become just as important as attractions and entertainment offerings.

Disney has also spent recent years investing more heavily in the resort experience through expanded recreation schedules, family activities, and seasonal entertainment offerings across several hotels, including Port Orleans Riverside.

For now, the wristband system remains limited to Doubloon Lagoon. Whether Disney decides to introduce similar procedures at additional resort pools remains unclear. Guests heading to Port Orleans should simply be prepared to verify their resort reservation before entering the popular French Quarter pool area.
