After Complete Closure, Disney World Theme Park May Not Reopen as Expected

A major change was thought to be in store for Walt Disney World Resort, with one of its beloved theme parks seemingly set to close indefinitely in just a few months. However, it now appears that the shake-up at the Central Florida vacation destination may not be happening as soon as anticipated.

Walt Disney World Resort, home to four iconic theme parks—Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom—also features two thrilling water parks: Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. Since November 2024, only Blizzard Beach has been operational, while Typhoon Lagoon has remained closed for its routine seasonal downtime.

Since the pandemic, Disney has implemented a rotational closure strategy for its water parks, ensuring that at least one remains open at all times. While this system provides guests with continued access to a water park experience, it also means that, at any given time, one park will remain closed unless the visit falls within a brief transition period.

Typically, as one water park closes, the other reopens the following day, allowing for a seamless transition. Earlier this year, it seemed clear when Blizzard Beach would be closing for the season and when Typhoon Lagoon would welcome guests once again. However, new developments suggest that the timeline may not be as straightforward as originally thought.

Back in late January, Disney’s official operations calendar extended through July 20, 2025, yet Blizzard Beach’s hours unexpectedly disappeared after March 29, showing “No Times Available.” Meanwhile, Typhoon Lagoon also lacked posted hours for March 30, leaving many to speculate about its impending reopening. Based on historical trends—Typhoon Lagoon reopened on March 19 in 2023 and March 17 in 2024—it seemed likely that March 30 could have marked its grand return, coinciding with Blizzard Beach’s anticipated closure. That said, Disney had not yet confirmed any details regarding the switch.

Now, it appears Disney has provided a clearer picture—at least for now. Blizzard Beach’s operating hours have officially been extended for an additional week, showing hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 5, 2025. However, starting April 6, no operating times are listed for either Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon, leaving fans with more questions than answers.

Adding to the uncertainty, Blizzard Beach has faced a challenging season, with multiple unexpected closures due to cold weather. As winter tightened its grip on Florida, frigid temperatures forced not only Blizzard Beach but also Universal’s Volcano Bay Water Theme Park to close on multiple occasions. Just last month, another arctic blast swept through the Sunshine State, causing additional disruptions.

Looking ahead, as spring break approaches, another cold front is expected to hit Central Florida this weekend and into next week. If temperatures drop again, Blizzard Beach may be forced to close temporarily, further complicating the ongoing water park shuffle.
