Disney Sparks Excitement With Fresh Movement on Monsters, Inc. Land Project

The transformation happening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios just took another big step forward. Disney has officially filed new permits tied to the former MuppetVision 3D theater, signaling that the area is moving quickly toward its upcoming Monsters, Inc. makeover. While the park hasn’t revealed a full breakdown of what the new land will include, the paperwork makes one thing clear: change is actively underway.

Two permits were submitted for the building’s Cypress Drive address, each tied to large-scale construction work. One brings in Jon Richards Company, a longtime Disney partner known for helping shape themed environments across Disney World, Disneyland, and even Tokyo DisneySea.

The other brings Solotech onboard, a major audio-visual firm that worked on recent additions like Zootopia: Better Zoogether. When both companies appear on the same project, it usually means Disney is gearing up for a full creative overhaul—not just a light refresh.

Guests may have already noticed pieces of the MuppetVision theming disappearing over the past several weeks. The new filings add context to those changes, supporting the idea that the theater is entering a new era instead of preparing for a reopening of the original show.

Concept art previously released for the upcoming Monsters, Inc. land shows the structure keeping its brick exterior but gaining a new marquee, a whimsical eye-shaped clock, and a fresh identity: The Glob. The name playfully nods to The Globe while fitting neatly into the world of Monstropolis.

The theater overhaul is just one part of a much larger expansion. Disney is also building a groundbreaking E-ticket attraction based on the film’s iconic door vault—set to become the company’s first suspended coaster and its first with a vertical lift. Beyond that, nearby dining options are expected to shift as well, with Mama Melrose’s rumored to be turning into Harryhausen’s and PizzeRizzo receiving its own Monsters, Inc.-themed update.

With so many moving pieces, Hollywood Studios is clearly shaping a new identity for this area of the park. It’s bittersweet for longtime fans who loved MuppetVision, but the scale of what’s coming suggests Disney is investing heavily in storytelling, technology, and immersive design.

Permits don’t reveal everything, but they do confirm you won’t see the old version of the theater return. Instead, something new—and likely packed with monsters—is getting ready to take the spotlight.
