Disney Sends Major Films to Netflix in Sweeping Streaming Deal

Plot twist of the streaming wars. Disney and Netflix, two companies that spend all day fighting over your subscription money, just signed a major licensing agreement that sends a pile of Disney owned movies and shows over to Netflix. Disney sees a customer base of more than 325 million as an enormous megaphone for its own content, and Netflix is totally fine writing the checks.

The deal brings a mix of older library titles and current season TV to Netflix, each for a limited run. Some of it starts almost immediately, so here’s everything you need to know.

It’s a pretty striking move when you think about it. Two giants who usually treat each other like enemies are quietly swapping content for cash, and a few of these titles are clearly timed to hype something bigger that’s coming soon.

All five 20th Century Studios Ice Age movies hit Netflix worldwide on October 4, kicking off a three month promo window. We’re talking Ice Age (2002), Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006), Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009), Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), and Ice Age: Collision Course (2016).

There’s a reason for the timing. Ice Age: Boiling Point, the sixth movie, lands in theaters February 5, 2027. Getting the whole series in front of a giant audience beforehand is a smart way to stir up interest and sell tickets.

Percy Jackson Fans, Pay Attention

Disney’s using the same trick for TV. Seasons 1 and 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians arrive on Netflix globally October 4, also for three months. Season 3 premieres on Disney+ November 20, so anyone who binges the first two on Netflix has a ready made reason to jump over to Disney+ for the new episodes.

Network Hits Joining the Party

Three current 20th Television series are in the mix. Will Trent Seasons 1 through 4 go global on Netflix November 3, ahead of Season 5 on ABC in early 2027. Shifting Gears Seasons 1 and 2 arrive December 1 in the U.S. and in January internationally, before Season 3 hits ABC in early 2027.

Tracker plays by different rules. Seasons 1 through 3 stream internationally outside the U.S. starting February 26, 2027, as part of a multiyear deal. Season 4 premieres on CBS October 4.

Pixar and Disney Animation Are Coming Too

Starting in early 2027, a selection of non franchised films from Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar land on Netflix globally. The list includes Oscar winner Soul, Elio, and Raya and the Last Dragon, though exact titles and dates will vary by region.

Throwback TV Gets a Second Act

The agreement also brings back a handful of older series. Felicity hits Netflix in the U.S. on October 7, with international dates coming later. Revenge and Army Wives are going global, Fresh Off the Boat heads to the U.S. and select regions, and This Is Us streams internationally outside the U.S., after a run on Netflix in the U.S. during 2024 and 2025.

Those titles will sit alongside other Disney owned shows already on Netflix, including Grey’s Anatomy, Arrested Development, Scandal, and Black-ish.

Why Disney Is Cool With Sharing

Disney’s logic is simple. Licensing these shows puts them in front of way more people, raises their profile, and rakes in millions in extra revenue. Netflix gets a bigger library out of it. Everybody wins.

Don’t expect Disney to go soft on its main strategy, though. Disney branded titles stay mostly exclusive to its own platforms and TV channels, and everything on Disney+ right now, including the Ice Age movies and Percy Jackson, as well as Hulu, stays right where it is.

Netflix isn’t slowing down on its own stuff, either. The streamer keeps cranking out originals, including animated hits like KPop Demon Hunters, made by Sony Pictures Animation, and Swapped, from Skydance Animation. Upcoming titles include Steps on November 20, Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory, and Guillermo del Toro’s The Buried Giant, plus sequels to Leo and KPop Demon Hunters in the works.

The Disney Trip Tie In

Got a Disney vacation coming up? This deal gives families one more spot to stream the Pixar and Disney Animation movies they’ll be spotting characters from at the parks. Since all the Disney+ titles stay on Disney+, you won’t lose a thing. It’s just extra options for getting everyone in the mood before you go. A movie night at home the week before your trip is an easy, low effort way to get kids excited about the characters and rides they’re about to meet in person.
