Disney Says Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Will Stay Open… For Now
Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster’s days are officially numbered, and Disney fans are scrambling to get one last ride.
Disney World has officially started the clock on Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster’s original run. The thrill ride, known for its limo-style launch and Aerosmith soundtrack, will stay open through 2025—but after that, it’s heading into retirement. Though Disney hasn’t released a specific date, the general expectation is that the ride will close in January 2026, shortly after the holiday crowds clear out.
This gives guests a clear timeframe to work with. Planning a winter trip in 2025? You’re probably safe. Waiting until spring break 2026? You’ll be too late.
What We Might See Inside
Themed artwork and online rumors point to a major makeover inside and out. The coaster’s facade may feature guitars and vibrant Muppets signage, turning Sunset Boulevard into a faux rock venue. Posters for Electric Mayhem’s “next big show” could be plastered across the entrance.
Inside the queue, guests may walk through a backstage area where the Muppets are preparing for a wild concert. Expect to see props, gags, and maybe even animatronic appearances or digital cameos from Gonzo, Animal, and the rest of the band.
Construction activity has already begun, and permits linked to the coaster suggest prep work is happening now, even as the ride continues operating.
And if there’s one thing Disney loves, it’s themed merchandise—so don’t be surprised if you start seeing Muppets concert tees and themed snacks across Hollywood Studios.
More Changes to Come
This isn’t happening in isolation. Sunset Boulevard is getting a full refresh. A new Monsters, Inc.-inspired land is coming soon, featuring Walt Disney World’s first suspended coaster. The land will also feature a brand new show, inspired by the animated classic.
The new villains-themed stage show has brought some serious edge to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Replacing Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, this show features iconic Disney villains like Maleficent, Hades, and Ursula.
The bad guys take center stage in a dramatic, high-energy performance. With projections, special effects, and a darkly theatrical atmosphere, it’s shaping up to be one of the most talked-about additions Sunset Boulevard.
Don’t Miss Your Shot
If you’ve always loved the fast-paced, rock-heavy vibe of this ride, don’t wait. Once 2026 hits, it’ll be a very different experience—and while the Muppets will surely bring the fun, there’s nothing quite like that Aerosmith countdown.
