Disney Quietly Rewrites ‘Star Wars’ Canon, and Fans Are Confused

Disney just made a quiet change to Star Wars canon, and it’s already sparking the kind of confusion that only this franchise can generate.

Because on paper, it seems like a small detail. A name tweak. A label change. Something most casual viewers would probably miss.

But longtime fans? They caught it immediately.

And now people are asking the same question: is Lucasfilm officially rewriting one of its Inquisitors, or is this just another case of Star Wars making things unnecessarily complicated?

A Familiar Villain Suddenly Gets a New Identity

The character at the center of the confusion is an Inquisitor who has been floating around the edges of the franchise for a while now. Fans originally recognized him as the Eleventh Brother, a masked Jedi hunter tied to the dark side group introduced in Star Wars Rebels (2014).

Inquisitors have become one of Disney-era Star Wars’ most reliable villain concepts. They’re creepy, relentless, visually memorable, and they fit perfectly into the post-Order 66 era where Jedi are being hunted down one by one.

But now, the Eleventh Brother appears to have been quietly renamed.

The Eleventh Brother Is Now “The Crow”

A Funko Pop listing tied to Disney’s upcoming animated series Maul: Shadow Lord has revealed that the character will no longer be labeled as the Eleventh Brother. Instead, he is being referred to as “The Crow.”

That name seems to connect to his crow-like mask design, which has always been one of the character’s most striking features.

The weird part is that fans have known this character as the Eleventh Brother for some time, especially after official sources like Star Wars Insider previously attached that title to him.

Now, suddenly, the label is different.

And because merchandise usually follows Lucasfilm’s official naming rules, this doesn’t feel accidental.

Why Fans Think This Could Be a Retcon

The biggest reason fans are confused is because Star Wars doesn’t typically mess with Inquisitor titles. These characters are normally locked into their numbered identities—Second Sister, Fifth Brother, Seventh Sister, and so on.

That numbering system is basically the branding of the entire group.

So calling him “The Crow” feels like Lucasfilm is either rewriting his identity entirely, or introducing a new title that may replace the old one.

Some fans are already wondering if “The Crow” is a nickname that becomes part of the story, or if Lucasfilm is simply trying to simplify the character for audiences before he plays a bigger role.

Either way, it has people talking.

Maul: Shadow Lord Could Finally Explain It

The timing of the change is also interesting because “The Crow” is set to appear in Maul: Shadow Lord, a Disney+ animated series launching on April 6, 2026.

The show will follow Darth Maul in the years after Order 66 as he builds his criminal empire while trying to stay one step ahead of the Empire.

But Maul isn’t exactly subtle, and eventually, trouble catches up.

The Crow will appear alongside another Inquisitor, Marrok (also known as the First Brother), who fans may recognize from Ahsoka (2023).

That combination alone suggests this series will be more important than just another animated side project.

Disney Keeps Tweaking Canon, and Fans Are Watching Closely

At the end of the day, this name change may turn out to be harmless. It could be a story-driven title. It could be something Maul calls him. It could even be an early-stage name before the character officially earns the Eleventh Brother title.

But fans have been burned before by quiet canon adjustments, and they’ve learned to pay attention when Disney starts changing details behind the scenes.

Because in Star Wars, even a simple name change can signal something much bigger coming next.
