Disney Plans to “Kill” Thor Before Doomsday in Shocking MCU Turn
Marvel Studios has never shied away from making big moves, but its latest choice has fans talking for all the wrong reasons. Known for reinventing characters and pushing storylines in unexpected directions, the studio now appears ready to take one of its most reliable heroes off the board — at least as we know him.
Thor has been one of the MCU’s most dependable forces for over a decade. Chris Hemsworth’s mix of godly power and sharp comedic timing has helped lead the Avengers through galaxy-spanning crises. However, reports suggest a significant shift is coming, which could mean the “end” of the Thor audiences have grown to love.
Current State of Marvel’s Beloved Hero
After Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), the God of Thunder set out on adventures with his adopted daughter, Love. His ending felt incomplete — not a clear goodbye, but not a setup for another solo film either. The decision to “kill off” this version could involve passing the mantle, jumping forward in time, or something even more dramatic.
Other heroes are also at interesting turning points. Spider-Man is starting over after the events of No Way Home (2021), the Guardians have parted ways after Vol. 3 (2023), and the Thunderbolts have stepped into the spotlight after their debut fight against the Void in May 2025. Hulk is quietly raising his son, Skaar, and the Fantastic Four’s July debut has already teased big things ahead with Doctor Doom and Franklin Richards.
Disney+ Series Building the MCU (and Thor’s Future?)
While the films have left many characters at intriguing crossroads, Marvel’s Disney+ lineup is working in parallel to expand these storylines, introduce new faces, and set the stage for what’s next.
Agatha All Along expands on the mischievous witch from WandaVision, while Ironheart follows Riri Williams’ high-tech heroics in a world where Iron Man is still absent. Loki has altered how timelines work in the MCU, raising the stakes for every major event to come. Eyes of Wakanda will take warriors beyond their homeland, showcasing Wakanda’s global influence, while Wonder Man will bring a Hollywood flair to the superhero roster.
These shows don’t feature Thor directly, but an upcoming release could completely reinvent him — or even bring his story to a definitive end.
The Zombies Are Coming
Premiering in October 2025, Marvel Zombies dives into a terrifying alternate reality where heroes and villains face — or become — the undead. Rumored characters include John Walker, Melina Vostokoff, Namor, Shuri’s Black Panther, Baron Zemo, and Valkyrie, each bringing unique skills and complications to the fight for survival.
The biggest surprise? Thor himself. In this universe, he may return as a zombie, swinging Mjolnir or Stormbreaker without mercy, stripped of all heroism. It’s not a complete erasure from the MCU, but it’s a horrifying reinvention — and perhaps the boldest “death” Marvel has attempted.
From God to Monster
Thor’s undead turn in Marvel Zombies would be a chilling symbol of the MCU’s willingness to push boundaries. As Avengers: Doomsday approaches in 2026, the mix of new heroes, risky plots, and daring reimaginations suggests no character is safe. Whether fans embrace this change or push back, one thing’s certain: the Thor we’ve known for over a decade may never be the same.
