Disney Recasts Several Characters in Two-Part ‘Avengers’ Project
It seems the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) lies in epic superhero ensembles. And why not? Some of the long-running franchise’s most lucrative entries have been the Avengers movies, along with other mega team-ups like Captain America: Civil War (2016).
Of course, Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019) remain the two most notable installments of them all, and though the MCU has yet to capture that lightning in a bottle again, Disney and Marvel appear to be doubling down on giving us content that features epic superhero team-ups.
This year has given us Thunderbolts* (2025), which saw Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), and David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian) back in action, and then Marvel Zombies, which brought back several characters (Multiversal variants). Now, all eyes are on the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, which is being directed by the Russo brothers (The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame).

Among Doomsday‘s massive cast includes Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Captain America), Letitia Wright (Shuri/Black Panther), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Wyatt Russell (John Walker/U.S. Agent), Simu Liu (Xu Shang-Chi), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki). There’s also Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch), Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing) from this year’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Several X-Men actors are reprising their roles, too: Kelsey Grammer (Hank McCoy/Beast), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier/Professor X), Ian McKellen (Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto), Alan Cumming (Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Raven Darkhölme/Mystique), James Marsden (Scott Summers/Cyclops), and even Channing Tatum (Remy LeBeau/Gambit), who first appeared in last year’s box-office hit Deadpool & Wolverine.
And last but not least, Robert Downey Jr. is also returning — not as Tony Stark/Iron Man, but this time as the film’s “big bad”, Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom.

The fifth film in the Avengers series isn’t hitting theaters for another year, but if you can’t wait that long to get your Earth’s Mightiest Heroes fix, don’t worry — there’s a brand-new miniseries now streaming on Disney+ that features plenty of your favorite characters.
LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails is a two-part animated series that premiered exclusively on Disney+ on November 14. But while recent animated projects like Marvel’s What If…? and, most recently, Marvel Zombies, brought back several actors from the films, including Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff/Red Queen), Iman Vellani (Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel), and Hailee Steinfeld (Kate Bishop), in true LEGO fashion, this features an all-new ensemble of actors lending their vocal talents to the extensive roster of characters.
Watch the official trailer for the miniseries below:
Troy Baker replaces Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Mick Wingert takes flight as Iron Man instead of Robert Downey Jr., Roger Craig Smith takes the shield from Chris Evans as Captain America, Laura Bailey dons Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow outfit, Jason Alexander takes up the mantle of Magneto (who has been played in film by Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender), and James Mathis III fills the legendary role of Black Panther, who was previously portrayed in live action by the late, great Chadwick Boseman.
Of course, like every piece of LEGO content that’s part of a larger franchise, whether it’s Marvel, Star Wars, or DC, Strange Tails is not canon, but it’s still a fun addition to the wider universe and fits in perfectly — especially in a franchise that’s otherwise heavily built around continuity. The two-parter follows Hawkeye (Baker) as he assembles a new team to thwart the plans of a social media influencer “bent on cataclysmic destruction.”
When it comes to casting new voice actors, Strange Tails is no exception. Other LEGO content includes the recent LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy — Pieces of the Past (although it did bring back Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Ahmed Best as Jar Jar Binks), and the upcoming video game “LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight” (2026). As for Marvel, there’s another upcoming superhero ensemble that has also recast several characters: “Marvel Cosmic Invasion”, a retro beat ’em up set for release on December 1.
But if it’s the original cast in live action you’re after, then Avengers: Doomsday releases in theaters in December, 2026, followed by Secret Wars in December, 2027.
