This month, a Walt Disney World Resort Monorail ride took an unsanitary turn when a guest shocked passengers by propping their bare foot on a communal pole. The incident, captured on video, quickly amassed attention online, leaving Disney Parks fans divided over etiquette, hygiene, and the state of the beloved transportation system.
Barefoot on the Disney Monorail
TikTok user @cats.castles.crafts documented the moment, explaining they wanted to “sit back and relax” during the Monorail ride when a fellow passenger decided to make themselves a little too comfortable by placing their bare foot on a pole used by standing guests. The video, later shared on Reddit by u/wednesdayschild_, drew instant reactions from disgusted Disney Parks fans.
“Thoughts on this?” the Redditor asked. “I’m horrified.”

The responses were swift and strongly worded.
“Humans are nasty,” wrote u/wombatastic. “…Wash your hands frequently and use hand sanitizer after every ride!”
Another user, u/FrozenFrac, added, “Part of me empathizes because I know how much even one day of going around the parks murders your feet, but to just completely remove your shoes and sticking your feet out for the whole (Walt Disney) world to see?????????”
Some Disney Parks guests expressed frustration with the Monorail system itself, sharing personal horror stories about its cleanliness.
“Those trams smell like farm animals sometimes, so I’m not surprised,” said u/KiefKommando.
“Gross. No wonder it always smells like feet in there,” u/Glittering-Pop8963 replied. “This is why I always have my hand sanitizer with me & use it all the time while at the parks.”
Disney’s Rules on Footwear
While a day at Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park can leave guests’ feet aching, the resort has clear policies requiring proper footwear at all times. Walt Disney World Resort guests cannot go barefoot in any public areas, including the Monorail.

Oh no! Someone put their cheesy feet on a pole meant for holding onto with a hand. As if a hand that is used to wipe a backside, and we all know some people don’t wash afterwards….eeew!…doesn’t grab that same pole. Or a kid who’s been picking their nose all day hasn’t left a germ or two. Putting a bare foot on a grab pole is gross, but it’s not the only thing. Soap and water, or a little sanitizer is in order throughout the day.
