Disney Gift Cards Rejected at More Disney Springs Retailers at Walt Disney World
Additional third-party stores at Disney Springs have stopped accepting Disney Gift Cards, Disney Rewards redemption cards, and Disney resort room charges.
Stores no longer accepting: Zara, Vera Bradley, Sephora, the LEGO Store, and Vuori, which opened October 16.
Notice to guests: Several locations have posted signs near checkout.
Stated cause: Guest Relations attributed the August changes to third-party contracts changing, and indicated most stores opening going forward likely will not accept these payment methods.
Still accepting: All Disney-owned and operated locations, including World of Disney and the Disney Store, plus all Disney Springs dining locations and third-party shops inside the theme parks.
Sephora at Disney Springs Shows the List Is Moving
In August, when the first stores dropped the payment methods, Sephora was specifically identified as a location still accepting Disney Gift Cards.
It no longer does.
That two-month turnaround is the practical warning. A store that accepted gift cards on a guest’s last visit may not accept them on the next one, which makes any published list a snapshot rather than a reference.
Vuori Indicates a Policy, Not a Trend
Vuori opened on October 16 without accepting these payment methods at all. Not as a change, but as its initial setup.
Combined with Guest Relations’ comment about future openings, this reads less like individual retailers withdrawing and more like a default in newer third-party agreements. Under that pattern, the list expands as leases renew and new tenants arrive rather than through separate decisions.
Why Disney Springs Specifically
Disney Springs operates differently from the theme parks. The parks are overwhelmingly Disney-operated, while Disney Springs is a leased district where Disney serves as landlord to national retail brands.
For a chain like Zara, Sephora, or LEGO, accepting Disney Gift Cards requires a custom payment integration and settlement process for one store among hundreds.
Read against the contract explanation from Guest Relations, the likely picture is that acceptance was negotiated into older leases and is falling away as agreements are rewritten. Disney has not described it in those terms publicly, so that remains an inference.
Room Charge Is the Riskiest Loss
The three affected payment methods do not fail equally.
Gift card holders are carrying a physical card and generally a backup.
Room charge users typically carry a MagicBand and a phone, which is the entire point of the system. Reaching a register at a third-party store with a full cart and no alternative payment method is the scenario most likely to leave a guest stuck.
Guests planning a Disney Springs shopping trip should bring a credit or debit card even if they rely on room charge everywhere else.
Dining At Disney Springs Is Not Affected
Disney Springs restaurants continue to accept Disney Gift Cards, Disney Rewards redemption cards, and room charges.
That matters for Disney Visa holders who accumulate points toward a meal at Disney Springs. Those plans remain workable. The restriction applies to third-party retail, not food and beverage.
The LEGO Store Is the Sticking Point
Among the affected stores, the LEGO Store carries the most potential for friction.
Zara, Sephora, Vuori, and Vera Bradley involve adult purchases, where swapping payment methods is a minor inconvenience.
The LEGO Store draws families with children, which turns a declined payment into a more difficult moment at the counter.
Practical Guidance
- Carry a credit or debit card at Disney Springs regardless of other payment plans
- Confirm acceptance at the register before shopping at third-party stores
- Direct gift card spending to World of Disney, the Disney Store, and Disney Springs restaurants
- Avoid assuming prior acceptance still applies, given the Sephora change
- Keep dining reservations and redemption card meal plans unchanged
Coverage of this change consistently includes the qualifier “so far.” In August it applied only to Disney Springs shops, and that remains the case in October. Whether it extends to third-party locations in the theme parks is the open question.
