Disney Delays Disneyland Ride Reopening at the Last Minute

Disney California Adventure guests expecting to ride Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind on June 18 were met with an unexpected surprise.

After spending months closed for refurbishment, the Pixar Pier attraction was originally scheduled to return to operation on June 18. Instead, Disney pushed the reopening back by another day, leaving fans waiting just a little longer to revisit the colorful world inspired by Pixar’s beloved film Inside Out (2015).

The attraction first closed in February as part of a refurbishment project. While Disney never announced extensive changes to the experience itself, the lengthy closure kept the ride unavailable throughout much of the spring and early summer travel season.

Many Disneyland fans had been watching the calendar closely as June 18 approached. That date appeared to mark the end of the attraction’s downtime, making it one of several notable reopening milestones at the Disneyland Resort this summer.

However, when the day finally arrived, Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind remained closed. Disney updated its operating calendar and shifted the attraction’s expected return to June 19 instead.

Although the delay is relatively minor, it illustrates how refurbishment schedules can change right up until reopening day.

Interestingly, much of the visible construction appears to be finished. The purple construction walls that previously surrounded the attraction have already been removed, allowing guests to once again see the colorful ride from Pixar Pier walkways.

That said, workers were reportedly still present around the attraction during the day on June 18. The continued activity suggests Disney may have needed additional time for final preparations, inspections, or testing before welcoming guests back aboard the ride.

Since opening in 2019, Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind has served as one of Pixar Pier’s family-friendly attractions. Riders board Memory Movers themed to Riley’s emotions and spin through a vibrant environment filled with glowing memories and colorful set pieces inspired by the film.

While it may not attract the same attention as Incredicoaster or Toy Story Midway Mania!, the attraction remains a popular option for families with younger children and guests looking for a gentler ride experience.

Assuming Disney’s latest timeline holds, guests should be able to return to the attraction beginning June 19. For travelers visiting Disneyland Resort in the coming days, it’s worth checking the official operating calendar before heading to Pixar Pier, just in case additional adjustments are made.

For now, the wait continues—but only by a day.
