Disney Confirms Widespread Resort Refurbishments Across Magic Kingdom Area Hotels

A Disney World hotel stay in 2026 may look very different depending on where you book. Across Walt Disney World, Disney has confirmed a massive wave of resort refurbishments, temporary closures, and construction projects that are expected to continue well into 2027.

For many guests, hotels are no longer just a place to sleep during a Disney vacation. Resorts have become a huge part of the experience itself. Families plan entire pool days around them. Guests reserve restaurants months in advance. Some people even book certain hotels specifically for fireworks views or transportation convenience.

That is why these newest updates matter.

Several of Disney’s biggest resorts are about to go through major changes, and some guests may absolutely notice the impact during upcoming vacations.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort may currently have the biggest disruptions. Construction continues across parts of the resort while the boat dock closure is also affecting transportation around Seven Seas Lagoon. Guests are being redirected toward monorails and walking paths during portions of the project. Disney has also warned that some lagoon views may be partially blocked while exterior work continues through 2026.

That is especially important at the Polynesian because the views are one of the resort’s biggest selling points. A lot of guests book dining reservations at ‘Ohana specifically to watch fireworks over Magic Kingdom.

Meanwhile, Disney’s Contemporary Resort is also dealing with long-term refurbishment work. Bay Lake Tower projects, atrium updates, pool closures, and even walkway impacts are continuing through late 2027. For Deluxe Resort guests paying premium pricing, those changes can feel significant.

Several other Disney resorts are also entering major refurbishment phases.

Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort begins a lengthy refresh in late May 2026 that runs through early 2027. Saratoga Springs continues cycling through restaurant and lounge closures. BoardWalk Inn, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Wilderness Lodge, and Animal Kingdom Lodge are all seeing varying levels of construction or maintenance work as well.

In some situations, guests may barely notice the projects. In others, the changes could affect dining plans, pool access, walking routes, or overall atmosphere during the trip.

Still, Disney appears to be making a major push to modernize large portions of its resort lineup before competition around Orlando becomes even stronger. Epic Universe is now fully operating at Universal Orlando Resort, and Disney clearly understands that guests are comparing every aspect of the vacation experience more closely than ever before.

That includes hotels.

The good news is that most of these resorts are staying fully operational during construction. Disney is also giving guests advance notice about many of the closures, which at least allows families to plan ahead before arriving.

But if you are booking a Disney World trip in 2026, it may be worth researching your hotel a little more carefully than usual. Construction walls, closed restaurants, and unavailable amenities could end up being part of the experience at several resorts over the next year.
