Disney Confirms MASSIVE Hollywood Studios Development Fans Didn’t See Coming

Something’s happening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios—and it’s not just a fresh coat of paint. Little by little, the park is transforming. Some changes are already in place, and others are still behind construction walls, but they’re about to flip the park’s entire vibe.

Disney is pulling out all the stops, from ride closures to brand-new lands. The trick? Not everything is obvious yet. Some updates are loud and proud with opening dates set, while others are quietly reshaping the park right under our noses.

Goodbye Muppet Vision 3D, Hello Monstropolis

Longtime fans might feel a twinge of nostalgia here—Muppet Vision 3D has officially closed. The curtain has fallen for good, clearing the way for a Pixar-sized project. In 2027 or 2028, the space will anchor a new Monsters, Inc. land, complete with the much-hyped Monsters, Inc. Doors Coaster. Expect fast-paced fun, a fully realized Monstropolis, and plenty of Mike and Sulley sightings.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Speeds into Muppet Mayhem

Another headline change? Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is closing at the end of 2025 or early 2026 for a Muppet-themed overhaul. While the track will stay the same, the story, music, and theming will get a total refresh. It’s an unusual combo—high-speed coaster meets puppet chaos—but it’s one Disney seems eager to roll out by the end of 2026.

The Falcon Gets a Mandalorian Makeover

If you’ve flown Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run before, get ready for a new reason to climb into the cockpit. Starting May 22, 2026—the same day The Mandalorian & Grogu hits theaters—the attraction will launch a new mission. Mando and Grogu will take guests on a completely different adventure, swapping the familiar cargo run for a fresh Star Wars storyline tied to the film.

Animation Courtyard’s Big Reimagining

By 2026, Animation Courtyard will transform into The Magic of Disney Animation. The new Roy E. Disney Animation Building will celebrate the artistry behind Disney films, and the whole area will get greener, more inviting spaces. To make room, Star Wars Launch Bay and Disney Jr. Play and Dance! will close on September 25, 2025.

Two New Shows Hit the Stage

Not all the fun is years away—May 27, 2025, brought two fresh productions. The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure reimagines the beloved undersea story with new effects and staging. Villains Unfairly Ever After invites guests into the Magic Mirror for dramatic villain showdowns. Both add welcome, low-wait options to the park.

Extended Evening Hours Adjustments

Disney is shifting more of its Extended Evening Hours to Hollywood Studios this fall, moving many of the sessions that were previously held at other parks to Wednesday nights here instead. One of the first confirmed dates is Wednesday, October 15, with more expected to be added as the season progresses.

Guests staying at deluxe resorts can enjoy an extra two hours in the park after official closing time, giving them a rare chance to experience major attractions with lighter crowds. Checking the official schedule is the best way to ensure your visit coincides with these extended hours.

The Park’s Next Era

Hollywood Studios is making bold moves to balance blockbuster rides with fresh shows and immersive lands. Whether you’re a Star Wars diehard, a Pixar fan, or just love a good thrill, the next few years will give you plenty of reasons to visit.
