Disneyland visitors hoping to spend some time with the 999 happy haunts in their usual surroundings have an important deadline coming up.
Disneyland Park will temporarily close Haunted Mansion beginning August 8, 2026, giving crews time to complete one of the attraction’s biggest transformations of the year. Friday, August 7, will therefore become the final day to experience the classic Haunted Mansion before its seasonal overhaul begins.
The attraction won’t remain closed for months. In fact, Disney plans to have it back relatively quickly. Haunted Mansion is scheduled to reopen August 21.
But there’s a catch.
When guests return, they won’t be stepping into the traditional Haunted Mansion. Instead, Haunted Mansion Holiday will take over, bringing The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) back into the attraction for an extended run.
Disneyland Gives Fans Until August 7
For fans of the original Haunted Mansion experience, August 7 is now the date to circle.
Once the attraction closes after that day, the traditional version isn’t expected to return at any point during the remainder of 2026.
Disney will close Haunted Mansion on August 8 and spend the following days preparing the attraction for Haunted Mansion Holiday. The seasonal version is scheduled to begin welcoming guests August 21.
That creates a nearly two-week stretch when neither version will be available.
Guests planning Disneyland vacations from August 8 through August 20 should account for Haunted Mansion being unavailable during their visits.
Those arriving August 21 or later will get an entirely different experience.
Jack Skellington Is Moving Back In
Haunted Mansion Holiday brings the characters and unusual holiday world of The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) into one of Disneyland’s most recognizable attractions.
Jack Skellington leads the takeover, with Sally, Oogie Boogie, and other elements inspired by the movie appearing throughout the mansion.
It has become a Disneyland tradition in its own right.
Rather than making a handful of cosmetic changes, Disney transforms large portions of the attraction. Guests encounter seasonal additions throughout their journey, giving Haunted Mansion a dramatically different personality than it has during its traditional operating period.
That scale also requires Disney to take the attraction completely offline while crews make the change.
The process begins immediately after August 7.
The Classic Mansion Is Gone for the Rest of 2026
The short closure could make it seem as though fans of the original Haunted Mansion only need to wait until late August.
That won’t be the case.
Although Haunted Mansion itself returns August 21, Haunted Mansion Holiday will remain in place through the end of 2026 and into early 2027.
In other words, the classic attraction is about to begin a months-long absence.
Guests visiting Disneyland during the fall and holiday months will experience the seasonal overlay rather than the standard version.
For some fans, that’s part of the appeal. Haunted Mansion Holiday has built a dedicated audience since making its Disneyland debut in 2001.
Others prefer the mansion without Jack Skellington’s holiday celebration taking over its familiar rooms.
Those guests are quickly approaching their last opportunity of the year.
One Disneyland Icon, Two Very Different Experiences
Haunted Mansion has occupied a special place at Disneyland since opening in 1969.
Its combination of elaborate illusions, spooky environments, unusual humor, memorable music, and famous characters helped create an attraction that remains recognizable decades later.
Haunted Mansion Holiday takes that familiar foundation and turns it into something considerably different.
The ride system remains familiar, but the atmosphere changes once The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) moves in.
That makes the August transition especially noticeable. Disneyland isn’t simply closing Haunted Mansion for routine maintenance and reopening the same attraction.
Guests who ride August 7 and return August 21 will encounter two noticeably different versions of the mansion.
The Countdown Is Officially On
There’s still time to visit the original Haunted Mansion before its 2026 run comes to an end, but that window is getting smaller.
Friday, August 7, will mark the final day for the traditional experience. Haunted Mansion will close August 8 and remain unavailable until Haunted Mansion Holiday opens August 21.
From there, the seasonal version will carry the attraction through the rest of the year and into early 2027.
Haunted Mansion itself isn’t disappearing. However, the version Disneyland guests have known throughout much of 2026 soon will.
Anyone hoping to take one more trip through the classic mansion before Jack Skellington moves in will need to do it by August 7.
