Unions representing thousands of Disney World Cast Members say an important announcement will be made on Thursday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. local time.
According to MyNews13, Unite Here Local 362, the union representing thousands of Cast Members who work at the Walt Disney World Resort, has teased an “abruptly scheduled” press conference at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. Union representatives say there will be an “important Disney union announcement.”
Negotiations reportedly continued early in the day on Thursday between Unite Here Local 362 and Disney. The meeting marks yet another attempt by both sides to create a contract with terms acceptable to both entities. The most recent contract expired in October 2022, and no new contract has been agreed upon since then.
The union representing many of Disney World’s Cast Members was seeking a minimum wage of $18 per hour, as well as full retroactive pay, going back to the date the previous contract expired. In response, Disney offered a minimum wage of $17 per hour and partial retroactive pay. As of the time of this publication, no agreement has been reached, leaving many to wonder whether the union’s announcement today will be a positive one–that both sides have come to an agreement, or a negative one–perhaps involving a strike.
