It’s been nearly thirty years since J.K. Rowling introduced excited readers to a young wizard named Harry Potter and changed the world. In that time, there have been seven books about “The Boy Who Lived,” eight movies, multiple spinoff books, including The Tales of Beedle the Bard, and a spinoff film franchise — Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. J.K., Rowling’s incredible books were so popular that she became the first author to reach billionaire status.

Although it’s been more than a decade since the last Harry Potter film hit theaters, that does not mean the love for the wizarding world has died down. In fact, the demand for Harry Potter is still so great that, in April 2023, HBO Max confirmed that there was anew Harry Potter TV series in the works! It is set to premiere in 2026.

According to HBO, the series will span ten seasons and explore the seven books more deeply than the movies ever did. It will feature an entirely new cast, new magic, and a new way to look at the incredible world Harry Potter and his friends, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, live in.

But the one question fans are constantly asking is if any of the film’s original stars will return for the new series. Of course, most of them could not return to their original roles, but it would be exciting for fans to see them filling new roles.

Daniel Radcliffe — who shot to fame playing Harry Potter himself — recently attended the Drama League Awards and was asked about the new series and whether he would join the cast. Unfortunately, his answer was probably not what a lot of fans were hoping to hear.

Radcliffe told E News!:

“I don’t think so. I think they [HBO] very wisely want to have a clean break. And I don’t know if it would work to have us do anything in it.”

He also said that he was looking forward to watching the series as a fan. However, he did play coy when asked if he would return to the franchise if HBO asked him. The actor said he would “not deal in hypotheticals.”

News of the original cast returning is not the only frustrating news Harry Potter fans have been dealing with.

Over the past couple of years, J.K. Rowling has found herself making headlines, but not because of a new book she has written. It is because she has been very open about her disdain for members of the transgender community. She has even said that she will “happily” go to jail for saying that transgender women are not women.

The archway and sign are themed to look like a fantasy or medieval setting, reminiscent of worlds once magical but now touched by controversy, like the debate around JK Rowling’s transphobic views. Her stance — which has fans calling her a TERF (trans-exclusionary radical feminist) — has even put her at odds with the stars of Harry Potter. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have both spoken out against what Rowling has said. It has destroyed their relationship, and Rowling said she does not care to have a friendship with them anymore.
