Confirmed: Universal Shakes Up Popular Horror Attraction With New Anime Haunted House

Universal’s horror business keeps getting bigger, and the company clearly has no plans to slow down anytime soon. What once centered almost entirely around Halloween Horror Nights has now grown into a much larger operation filled with year-round experiences, original characters, movie tie-ins, and experimental concepts that push beyond traditional haunted houses.

Now, Universal is preparing to test another completely new idea.

Fans already have plenty to look forward to across both coasts this Halloween season. Still, one newly announced horror concept has quickly become one of the most talked-about additions Universal has teased in years. The idea feels very different from the company’s normal approach, and many fans are still trying to figure out exactly what the experience could become.

Halloween Horror Nights Keeps Evolving

Halloween Horror Nights continues to grow far beyond what it was decades ago. The event now operates more like a giant immersive horror production than a simple collection of haunted mazes.

Every year, Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood transform into packed nighttime events filled with scare zones, themed entertainment, roaming characters, and movie-quality haunted houses. Some guests now plan entire vacations around HHN alone.

Universal also keeps finding new ways to raise the production level.

Detailed sets, original music, advanced effects, and interactive moments help many houses feel like guests are walking directly into horror movies. Some concepts come from major films, while others introduce original characters that later become central parts of HHN history.

That growth is continuing again in 2026.

Hollywood’s Event Is Starting To Take Shape

Universal Studios Hollywood has only confirmed one haunted house so far for this year’s event, but it is already drawing major attention.

Guests will experience a house based on Sinners (2025), bringing the vampire-themed film directly into HHN Hollywood’s lineup this season.

The park is also bringing back Terror Tram along with its live entertainment offerings. Terror Tram remains one of the biggest differences between Hollywood and Orlando because guests move through portions of the famous backlot. At the same time, scare actors and themed sets surround them throughout the experience.

That setup gives Hollywood’s HHN a style that feels completely separate from Orlando’s.

At the same time, Universal Orlando Resort is building its own major lineup.

Orlando Is Bringing Back Familiar Faces

Universal Orlando Resort has already confirmed two haunted houses for Halloween Horror Nights 2026, including one centered around Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow.

Both characters have become deeply tied to HHN history over the years, and longtime fans often view them as two of the event’s defining original icons.

Orlando will also feature its own Sinners (2025) haunted house as Universal continues adapting newer horror films into event experiences very quickly after release.

Beyond the haunted houses, live entertainment will return, giving guests even more to do throughout the night.

Many fans are also hoping the Horror Make-Up Show reopens in time for the Halloween season after its current reimagining work. The attraction has always mixed horror and comedy in a way that fits naturally alongside HHN.

Still, Universal’s plans now extend well beyond seasonal events.

Universal Wants Horror To Become Year-Round

Universal’s larger horror strategy became even clearer with Universal Horror Unleashed, the company’s permanent horror destination designed to operate all year long.

The experience combines haunted attractions, themed areas, live entertainment, specialty food and drinks, and roaming horror characters into one permanent location inspired heavily by the atmosphere of Halloween Horror Nights.

Instead of limiting scares to fall, Universal is building horror into a constant entertainment brand.

The company also appears ready to expand those offerings in 2027, with additions including a “New Valentine’s Day Experience,” a “New Jack’s Show,” and a “New Anime Horror Experience.”

That final announcement immediately grabbed fans’ attention online.

Universal’s Anime Horror Plans Stand Out

The anime-themed horror concept could become one of the most unusual experiences Universal has attempted in its horror division.

Right now, Universal has not attached the project to a specific anime franchise, leaving fans wondering whether the attraction will use an existing property or tell an original anime-inspired horror story instead.

The roadmap currently lists the experience for May 2027.

Anime’s popularity has exploded worldwide over the last decade, especially among younger audiences that already overlap heavily with theme park fandoms. Horror anime also carries a visual style very different from traditional American horror properties, which could give Universal a completely fresh type of attraction.

Fans are already wondering whether concepts like this could eventually move into Halloween Horror Nights itself.

Universal has already shown that HHN ideas and permanent horror experiences can overlap. Universal Horror Unleashed includes concepts inspired by Universal Monsters, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), Scarecrow: The Reaping, and Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer (2023).

If the anime concept succeeds, it would not be surprising to see similar themes appear at HHN eventually.

Universal’s horror business keeps expanding into entirely new territory, and anime may now become part of that future.
