It introduced audiences to the Polynesian princess Moana, who embarks on a courageous journey to save her island, Motunui. This success continued into 2023 when Moana was reported as the number one streamed movie on Disney+, with audiences spending over 11 billion minutes watching it.
Anticipation for Moana 2 surged when Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the initial plan to develop a Moana series for Disney+ had evolved into a theatrical release due to the incredible footage produced. This transition has set high expectations, as the sequel is scheduled to premiere in theaters on November 27, 2024.
