Casting Call For Wildly Popular Streaming Series Suddenly Cut Short After “Overwhelming” Group of Applicants Swarms Directors
A previously issued casting call for extras to appear in an episode of a fan-favorite streaming series has been abruptly terminated after a staggering number of individuals lined up for consideration and “overwhelmed” filmmakers in Texas.

Everything’s Bigger in Texas. Especially the Crowds.
They say everything’s bigger in Texas, and as a native Texan, this writer can attest to such a claim.
Not only are the trucks, the tractors, the trees, and the trains bigger in Texas, but so are the wide open fields of bluebonnets (only in the month of April, mind you), the wide open mouths of the Largemouth bass, and the wide open variety of churches to attend. (There’s literally one on just about every corner.)
But apparently, that claim doesn’t only apply to the nearly 270,000 square miles and miles of Texas, to the giant 55-foot-high “Big Tex” icon at the State Fair of Texas, or to Zeus, a Texas native and canine who holds the Guinness World Record for the largest living dog.
While it’s not necessarily true that the people in Texas are bigger (even though we Texans claim “everything” is bigger), it is true that the sheer number of people living in Texas isn’t exactly something to balk at. As of the most recent count, some 30.5 million people call Texas home, whether they were born in the Lone Star State or–as Texas transplants like to say–they got there as fast as they could.
And according to those who witnessed the phenomenon with their own two eyes, it would appear that a giant group of those 30.5 million (give or take several million) showed up in Fort Worth, Texas, this week for a chance at becoming Hollywood’s next star or starlet.
Well, perhaps that’s what those who arrived for a shot at being chosen as an extra in the streaming series Yellowstone were thinking.
‘Yellowstone’ Starring Kevin Costner
Yellowstone, which is available for streaming on Peacock, has quickly become one of the most popular series on any streaming platform.
The wildly in-demand and critically acclaimed American drama series was created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson and centers around the Dutton family, led by patriarch John Dutton, played by actor Kevin Costner. The Duttons own the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States, and Yellowstone tells the stories of the complex and sometimes violent conflicts between the Duttons and various groups, including land developers, Native American tribes, and the federal government.
The ensemble cast includes talented actors and actresses such as Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton, Wes Bentley, who plays Jamie Dutton, and Cole Hauser, who plays the rugged Rip Wheeler. Other notable appearances include Kelsey Asbille, who plays Monica Dutton, Gil Birmingham, who plays Chief Thomas Rainwater, and Jefferson White, who plays Jimmy Hurdstrom.
With its stunning cinematography, intense drama, and strong ensemble cast, Yellowstone has captivated audiences and become a significant player in the world of streaming.
The series’ popularity was confirmed by recent accounts of this week’s search for extras in Fort Worth, Texas, about 20 miles east of Dallas.
“Legions” of Texans Show Up For a Shot
According to the Daily Mail, “legions” of people showed up in answer to a casting call placed by Yellowstone’s producers. In fact, so many people arrived for the chance at being chosen as an extra in an episode of Yellowstone that producers were forced to stop the call suddenly and without warning.
Yellowstone Extras Casting placed a call for fans interested in being featured as extras in an upcoming episode of the hit series, but the group was forced to quickly stop accepting applications after an “overwhelming amount of interest” in the prospect threatened to inundate producers.
Per the Facebook post, submissions have been closed, though no one has been booked as an extra just yet, and producers are asking those who submitted an application to be patient.
TEXAS – Submissions for Lainey Wilson Concert Scene are closed. We haven’t booked everyone yet. Stay patient if you can! Bookings are just getting underway but we received an overwhelming amount of interest, (Thank you Texas!) So submissions are now closed. Thanks Everyone,Tracy Dixon and Kelly Hunt – Yellowstone Extras Casting
But inquiring minds want to know: what’s the lure of the prospect of being an extra in a Yellowstone episode?
It’s Got to Be the Fandom
It’s important to note that fans who are chosen as extras to appear in an upcoming episode of Yellowstone must do it for the love of the series—not for the generous compensation they would receive in exchange for their time.
Individuals who are chosen as extras in the series are reportedly expected to arrive at the set very early in the morning, and transportation is not provided. Additionally, extras are expected to put in 10 to 12 hours of “work” in a day’s time. And for fans wondering if the payout is impressive, the simple answer is no.
Despite the necessary travel and other requirements, extras on the set of Yellowstone receive only $110 for their time and efforts, making it clear that the fans who want so desperately to appear as extras in an upcoming episode of the series must be doing it for the love of the series as diehard fans.
Either that or a massive group of Texans came together to give the rest of the country just one more example of everything truly being bigger in Texas. You decide.
