‘Camp Rock’ Alum Says They Were Left Out of Upcoming Sequel

For fans of Disney’s iconic Camp Rock franchise, the possibility of a Camp Rock 3 has been a long-awaited dream. The original film, which premiered in 2008, introduced audiences to Demi Lovato as Mitchie Torres, a talented teen singer battling stage fright. The soundtrack became a summer anthem, and the movie cemented itself as a cultural phenomenon that helped launch Lovato into superstardom. The film also marked the rise of the Jonas Brothers, who were already household names by the time the movie aired.

While the film’s success led to a sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, many fans believed the Camp Rock story had come to a close. But on September 17, Disney confirmed the long-rumored news: Camp Rock 3 is officially happening.

This new installment will follow the Jonas Brothers’ band, Connect 3, as they return to the beloved summer camp to search for a new opening act for their reunion tour. While the familiar faces of the Jonas Brothers will make their return, there’s one important figure missing from the third film. And we aren’t talking about Demi Lovato, who is serving as an executive producer on the third film.

Alyson Stoner, who played Mitchie’s closest camp friend, Caitlyn, in both Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2, has revealed that they were not invited to return for the sequel. In an exclusive interview with E! News, Stoner (who uses they/them pronouns) opened up about the exclusion and how it came as a surprise to them.

Stoner spoke with E! News on September 20, just days after the Camp Rock 3 announcement, during a panel at the 2025 Teen Vogue Summit.

I haven’t heard anything beyond that,” Alyson exclusively told E! News Sept. 20—three days after the film was announced—during a panel at the 2025 Teen Vogue Summit, “but that sounds exciting.”

“I’m guessing it’ll be maybe similar to what they did with High School Musical, where maybe they introduce a new generation,” the Cheaper by the Dozen alum said. “That’s what I’m assuming. But cool. Sounds great.

Stoner’s optimism is evident, but the reality of being excluded from the upcoming film has certainly left fans wondering why her character, Caitlyn, won’t be joining the camp again. Despite this, Stoner has been able to find peace with the situation. “Let me know if you need a coordinator on set,” they said, offering to contribute in any way possible.

Stoner’s career continues to thrive, though, as they focus on various ventures, including their mental health company, Movement Genius, which they founded in 2020.

Despite the absence of Stoner and Lovato, the announcement of Camp Rock 3 has sparked a great deal of excitement. Disney confirmed that the Jonas Brothers will return to the screen, alongside a new generation of campers eager to showcase their talents.

As for Stoner, they are still embracing the joy that Camp Rock brought to their career. Along with Camp Rock, Stoner has worked with Disney on several other projects. They played Max in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, voiced Victoria in Lilo & Stitch: The Series, and lent their voice to Isabella Garcia-Shapiro in Phineas and Ferb. Stoner also starred in the Step Up film series, where they portrayed Camille Gage, a role that further solidified their place in the entertainment world.
