Southern California is battling a dangerous wildfire outbreak that has led to multiple evacuation orders near Los Angeles. The fires, which began on January 7, have burned through areas near Pasadena, the San Fernando Valley, and the Pacific Palisades, driven by powerful winds that continue to spread the flames.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is investigating the cause of the fires, but officials warn that the affected areas will likely expand.
Is Disneyland at Risk?
Disneyland Resort, located in Anaheim, remains open despite concerns. The resort sits approximately 43 miles from the Eaton Fire and 47 miles from the Pacific Palisades Fire. Maps from local reports show that while the fires are causing heavy smoke in many parts of Los Angeles County, the projected smoke paths stop short of Anaheim.
California Governor Gavin Newsom confirmed that FEMA has provided Fire Management Assistance Grants to help contain the fires. Firefighters have been working through the night, yet officials caution that more damage is expected over the coming days.
NEW: California secured Fire Management Assistance Grants from @FEMA to help further ensure the availability of vital resources to suppress the #HurstFire, #EatonFire, & #PalisadesFire.

Universal Studios Hollywood Closes Its Gates
In contrast to Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood has temporarily closed due to the fires. The park, which is located closer to the Sylmar and Palisades fire zones, made the decision to halt operations out of an abundance of caution. With road closures and reduced visibility due to smoke, Universal’s team emphasized guest safety as their primary concern.
While no fire has reached the park grounds, nearby areas have experienced evacuations, and many attractions in the vicinity have been impacted by emergency services activity.
What Guests Should Know
Disneyland Resort remains unaffected for now, but guests are encouraged to check for updates as conditions can shift rapidly. Universal Studios Hollywood, however, will remain closed until fire officials determine it is safe to reopen.
Both parks have faced temporary closures in the past due to wildfires, but the unpredictability of wind-driven flames has made this fire season particularly concerning. Travelers visiting Southern California should stay updated and prepare for changes to their plans as officials continue to prioritize public safety.
