Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, one of the park’s most iconic roller coasters, as well as the Liberty Square Riverboat, Tom Sawyer Island, and Country Bear Musical Jamboree were all listed as closed. The only major attraction still operational in the area appeared to be Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which has recently been using a virtual queue system.
Frontierland’s Previous Closures: A History of Unexpected Setbacks
This recent closure at Magic Kingdom marks yet another instance of Frontierland being temporarily inaccessible to guests. In September, guests reported a sudden closure of the area, with a truck spotted in the vicinity. Fortunately, that closure only lasted for a few hours and did not impact the entire day. It was later speculated that the truck was involved in some sort of maintenance work, although details were never officially confirmed by Disney.
Back in May, another issue forced the closure of Frontierland. This time, the problem was a bit more unpleasant—Disney guests witnessed a sewer backup that caused flooding in the area. While Disney worked quickly to fix the issue, the disruption left some guests wondering about the reliability of the park’s infrastructure.
For frequent visitors to the park, these types of closures are not entirely unexpected.
