Brand-New ‘Power Rangers’ Reboot in Development for Disney+

Power Rangers is finally getting a new reboot series for Disney+, with Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz officially on board.

The news follows reports that the pair were involved in such a project earlier this year; however, it has now been officially confirmed. While details on the story, cast, and release date remain under wraps, Steinberg directly acknowledged the news, telling Movieweb during a recently premiere event for Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, “The rumor is true. I can not tell you, but I am very, very excited for that story.”

Shotz, however, made it clear that they’re not ready to share plot details. “You are asking questions that you know I can’t answer,” he joked when asked about specifics. “Let’s just say we very much hope to bring that story to life, so that’s all I can say at this point.”

The franchise rights currently belong to Hasbro, which purchased them from Saban in 2018. However, this won’t be Disney’s first rodeo with Power Rangers, having previously owned the rights during the early 2000s, before Saban reacquired the brand in 2010.

While Mighty Morphin Power Rangers debuted in 1993 and has continued through dozens of iterations and even a handful of films, this new reboot leaves one key question unresolved: whether the series will start from scratch or acknowledge the decades-long franchise continuity.

Disney’s return to the property comes at a time when Power Rangers still holds a strong foothold in nostalgia, streaming, and merchandise, with the brand continuing to churn out comic books and video games.

No details beyond the involvement of Steinberg and Shotz have been confirmed, but their recent success with Percy Jackson could suggest a more serialized and character-focused approach. For now, fans will have to wait for official announcements from Disney or Hasbro.
