“Biggest Fear Unlocked”: Guests Live Nightmare on Disney Roller Coaster

A recent ride on Disney’s Expedition Everest roller coaster turned into a nightmare for several guests, who were unexpectedly stuck in place for over 30 minutes at the top of the ride. The Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park attraction is known for its twists, turns, and backward drops, but for some recent riders, it was a test of patience and courage.

Expedition Everest has long been one of Walt Disney World Resort’s most popular thrill rides, but it’s most famous for its motionless audio-animatronic. When the attraction opened in 2006, its animatronic Yeti was one of the most complicated figures Walt Disney Imagineering had ever created. Unfortunately, after just months of lunging at guests, Disney cast members discovered that the heavy animatronic’s movements were damaging its concrete base. Imagineers deactivated the animatronic and installed a strobe light to mimic movement, and the Yeti hasn’t swung at riders since.

On Tuesday, Disney Park guests found themselves stuck at the top of the Forbidden Mountain, right before the track would send them plunging backward before the 80-foot drop. TikTok user @eyevvv6 shared a video of the experience, calling it their “biggest fear unlocked.”

An unknown ride malfunction caused guests to be stuck in place for over 30 minutes. After the lengthy delay, Disney cast members came to the rescue and safely assisted the riders off the ride and down emergency exit stairs. It appears that no guests were injured, but they did need to climb down over 80 feet of stairs.

While it’s unclear what caused the shutdown, the ride resumed its normal operations shortly after the evacuation on Tuesday. Walt Disney World Resort rarely releases specific details about such temporary shutdowns, and the reason for this one remains unknown.
