‘Beetlejuice 2’: Here’s What We Know!

In 1988, Micheal Keaton and iconic director Tim Burton teamed up and made a movie about “the ghost with the most”, Beetlejuice. Michael Keaton starred as the titular dead guy, alongside Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin. Baldwin and Davis play Adam and Barbara, a recently deceased couple who hire Beetlejuice to help them get rid of the New York City family that just moved into their home.

Of course, Beetlejuice is really only good at causing chaos, so things get pretty crazy pretty fast. The film also starred Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz (who is utterly alone), Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz, Jeffrey Jones as Charles Deetz, and Glenn Shadix as Otho.

It’s been more than 25 years since the original film came out, but its popularity has never waned. And now, we are FINALLY getting the sequel film we have all been waiting for!

Here is everything we know about the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel.

The Title and Release Date

After years of waiting, Warner Bros. finally let fans know that the craziest dead guy from the world beyond would be coming back. The sequel will be called Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and the anticipated release date is September 6, 2024! Warner Bros. shared the exciting news on X (formerly Twitter).

Dare you to say it again. #Beetlejuice #Beetlejuice – Only in theaters September 6.

Who’s Coming Back and Who’s New

As of right now, we know that Michael Keaton will return to play Beetlejuice. Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara will be back to play Lydia and Delia Deetz. It looks like Jeffrey Jones will not be returning as Charles Deetz for the sequel. Sadly, Glenn Shadix died after complications from surgery in 2010, so his role as Otho will only live on in the memories of those who love the original film.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice newcomers include Wednesday star, Jenna Ortega, who will be playing Astrid, Lydia’s daughter. Monica Bellucci will also star in the new film. We do not yet know her name, but we do know that she will be playing Beetlejuice’s wife. Willem DaFoe and Justin Theroux will also star in the sequel, but we do not know what their roles will be.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Will Feel “Handmade”

With such incredible advances in film technology being made since the original film was released, there was the possibility of the movie going very heavy on CGI, especially if they ventured into the great beyond. However, Michael Keaton and Tim Burton — the genius behind the original movie — said that CGI was really the last thing they wanted.

In a recent interview with PEOPLEMichael Keaton said that he wanted the film to have a really authentic feel, one that could not be done by using a lot of CGI.

“The one thing that he and I decided on early, early, early on from the beginning, if we ever did it again, I was totally not interested in doing something where there was too much technology. It had to feel handmade.”

“What made it fun was watching somebody in the corner actually holding something up for you, to watch everybody in the shrunken head room and say, ‘Those are people under there, operating these things, trying to get it right.”

“It’s the most exciting thing,” says Keaton. “When you get to do that again after years of standing in front of a giant screen, pretending somebody’s across the way from you, this is just enormous fun.”

What Will the Storyline Be?

As of right now, Warner Bros. is keeping the storyline pretty under wraps. All we really know is that it looks like Beetlejuice will return to help haunt another house. Perhaps Lydia and Astrid need them to help with their house. Everything is up in the air and nothing is off limits.

Disney Dining will certainly keep readers updated as we learn more about this frighteningly fun sequel!
