New Batman Reboot Resets DCU, Unveils First Official Trailer

Batman fans have plenty to sink their teeth into as the DC Universe gears up for a fresh, animated adventure with Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League.

This new installment, a follow-up to the 2018 cult hit anime Batman Ninja, takes the Dark Knight into a battle against a horde of yakuza-style criminals and a Multiversal variant of the Justice League. The first official trailer drops a bombshell of nostalgia and innovation, blending the rich legacy of Gotham City’s caped hero with a uniquely anime twist.

Watch it below, per Warner Bros. Entertainment:

What’s striking about Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League is its bold reimagining of the Caped Crusader. Koichi Yamadera returns to voice Bruce Wayne (in the Japanese release), adding gravitas to a character who has seen more reinventions than most.

The trailer also teases a cavalcade of familiar faces—Damian Wayne/Robin, Dick Grayson/Nightwing, Jason Todd/Red Hood, and even a retooled version of Superman under the alias Kuraku Hagane—all thrown together in a wild Multiversal melee.

It’s a far cry from the gritty realism of earlier Batman films, yet it captures that same sense of audacious spectacle that fans have come to expect from animated DC projects.

The stakes are high as Batman and his eclectic allies confront a Yakuza League that pushes the boundaries of both style and story.

Set for digital release on March 18, 2025, with a subsequent Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD launch on April 15, the film promises a fast-paced, visually stunning romp through an alternate Gotham City.

With every frame packed with dynamic action and a vibrant aesthetic that pays homage to both anime and American superhero traditions, the film looks poised to redefine what an “anime Batman” can be.

This project might fly under the radar compared to upcoming live-action films like The Batman Part II (2027) and The Brave and the Bold, but it’s exactly the kind of fresh, boundary-pushing content that DC fans have been craving.

In an era where the DC Universe is undergoing radical reinventions, Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League is a bold reminder of the franchise’s willingness to experiment. With its fusion of East and West, tradition and innovation, this film stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of Batman across multiple mediums.

The Batman Part II will be released on October 1, 2027. There’s no release date for The Brave and the Bold.
