Baked on the Job? Disney Character Accused of Smoking Weed at Park

A recent malfunction at Walt Disney World Resort has left many guests accusing a popular character of consuming marijuana on the job…kind of.

Toy Story Mania! has been a fan-favorite attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios since it opened in 2008. The interactive 3-D ride features Mr. Potato Head in the queue, where he provides safety instructions and occasionally interacts with guests (thanks to a little Disney magic). However, last week, an unusual malfunction caused his eyes to turn bright red, leaving guests terrified and amused.

Reddit user u/fullmoon119 posted two photos of the malfunction, showing Mr. Potato Head with disturbing red marks on his eyes. The post quickly amassed hundreds of upvotes and comments.

“The first one looks like he needs some clear eyes drops,” u/ManeToys83 commented. “The second one looks like he’s been fully possessed by the devil.”

Others joked that Mr. Potato Head had “moonlighted at Five Nights At Freddy’s” or had been “smoking a little spud.”

While the malfunction of the animatronic’s projection-mapped eyes is likely due to technical issues, it certainly sparked some amusing responses from Disney Parks fans.

He forgot to pack his sober eyes,” said u/Goodechild.

“Baked potato,” u/DillingerGetawayCar replied.

The cause of the audio-animatronic character malfunction remains unclear, and Walt Disney World Resort has not issued a public statement regarding the incident. It’s known that Mr. Potato Head’s projection-mapped eyes, common in animatronics from the late 2000s and early 2010s, sometimes experience technical glitches.

Disney cast members can quickly cover Mr. Potato Head’s area with a curtain when repairs are needed, ensuring visitors can still experience Toy Story Mania! even if the animatronic character isn’t functioning correctly.
