All Aboard! ‘The Polar Express’ Returns for a Festive Experience Amid Sequel Buzz

The Polar Express (2004) has chugged its way into the hearts of families as a modern Christmas classic. While it faced initial criticism for its “uncanny valley” animation style, the film, directed by Robert Zemeckis and featuring multiple performances from Tom Hanks, has become a holiday staple. Adapted from Chris Van Allsburg’s 1985 children’s book, this heart-warming tale offers a magical ride to the North Pole, all wrapped up in nostalgia and adventure.

And it’s not just on-screen magic. The film’s popularity has inspired real-world experiences. In November 2007, SeaWorld Orlando introduced The Polar Express Experience, a motion simulator that whisked guests on a snowy adventure to the North Pole. Sadly, it closed its doors in 2015, leaving fans without their local dose of holiday cheer.

But don’t worry! For those still longing for a festive train ride, The Polar Express is making a comeback in the UK this year. Per Birmingham Live, Vintage Trains is bringing back the magical experience, letting families board a real train that captures the spirit of the 2004 movie. Running from November 23 to December 23, the experience departs from Birmingham Moor Street, complete with all the trimmings—yes, even hot chocolate!

What’s more, families are encouraged to attend in their pajamas, just like the kids in the movie. The experience promises classic moments from the film, festive sights and sounds, and of course, a chance to meet Santa Claus himself. Passengers can also grab some themed merchandise on board to remember their enchanting journey.

If you want to join in, be sure to snag a golden ticket through Vintage Trains’ official website. Here’s how they describe the adventure:

“Join us at Vintage Trains for festive fun this Christmas! THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride is returning to Vintage Trains again in 2024 with the magic of the 2004 motion picture being theatrically re-created so you and your family can be immersed in the sights, sounds, and intrigue of this classic children’s tale. Prepare to be surrounded by the magic and wonder of the Christmas season!”

But that’s not all. There’s even buzz about a potential sequel! Earlier this year, producer Gary Goetzman told ComicBook.com that The Polar Express 2 might be in the works, though there hasn’t been any official confirmation since then. Will we see a continuation of the story that has captivated families for nearly two decades? Only time will tell.
