Aladdin Gets a Dark, Twisted Makeover in New Horror Remake
When it comes to Disney’s timeless animated films, few are as beloved as Aladdin. The 1992 film brought the Middle Eastern folktales of One Thousand and One Nights to life with unforgettable characters and an iconic soundtrack. Yet, in the world of Hollywood, even the most cherished classics are subject to change.
Recently, Disney’s Aladdin has been thrust into an unexpected genre shift, sparking intrigue and concern among its dedicated fan base. While we’ve seen reimaginings and live-action versions of Disney’s animated masterpieces, this new iteration is bound to leave fans wondering—what exactly does “twisted” mean?

In a world where horror remakes of popular stories are becoming more common, Aladdin’s latest incarnation is about to take a darker, more sinister turn. A two-part horror film, titled Aladdin and Aladdin’s Revenge, is in the works. Produced by B22 Films, this version promises to explore the beloved tale in a way fans have never seen before. It’s not just about a street rat finding love or a genie granting wishes anymore—it’s about wishes gone horribly wrong, in a terrifying new world.
According to Bloody Disgusting, “This Aladdin is rooted in the ancient tale. It’s the story about wanted things so badly, unaware of the consequences, that these characters just wish for them and from there, things go haywire.”
This description hints at a far more dangerous world than the whimsical setting of Agrabah we’re used to, where the stakes are higher and the consequences of desire take a nightmarish turn.

The plot centers on a struggling young woman who stumbles upon a magical lamp, offering her the chance to make three wishes. But, as with all tales of wishes granted, things don’t go as planned. The wishes spiral out of control, leading the characters into a world of terror and violence.
The film will feature scream queen Devanny Pinn and Rob Zombie alumni Billy Blair, both bringing their horror expertise to the screen. The project is written and directed by Brett Bentman, and it’s being produced by Tiffany McDonald and B22 Films.
Filming for this dark adaptation has already begun in Oklahoma, with a planned release date in 2026. However, there’s still some uncertainty about whether both films in the saga will be released together or spaced out over time.

This new take on Aladdin may raise eyebrows for those who adore the original, but it’s part of a growing trend of classic Disney stories being re-imagined in a much darker light. Not too long ago, characters like Steamboat Willie, Bambi, Peter Pan, and Winnie-the-Pooh were all given horrifying remakes. Disney’s influence on popular culture is vast, and now its characters are being reinterpreted in genres we wouldn’t have expected.
While Disney’s Aladdin is not in the public domain, the original story is, which means B22 Films can freely take the characters and adapt them into their own unique, terrifying narrative. As the line between horror and family-friendly fare continues to blur, it’ll be interesting to see whether other classic Disney stories receive similar treatment.
Do you think Disney’s classic characters should be given these dark makeovers? Or should the company stick to the family-friendly films we know and love? What other Disney classics could make an exciting—and horrifying—horror remake? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below!
Aladdin should not have gotten this. I hate how Winnie the Pooh, got a dark horror adaption, I feel these films are like insults to our childhood memories turning them into something horrifying and twisted.
