After 2012 Opening, Disney World’s Fantasyland Might Be Losing a Classic
When Disney unveiled the expansion of Fantasyland back in 2012, it brought a fresh wave of excitement to Magic Kingdom. The area quickly became known for its charming atmosphere, whimsical details, and a balance of both thrill rides and relaxing spaces for families. Over the years, attractions like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Enchanted Tales with Belle, and Storybook Circus carved out their place in the park’s lineup, each offering something a little different for guests.
More than a decade later, one of those spaces may now be on the chopping block. A recently filed work permit has fans buzzing about what could be the next big closure in Fantasyland. Disney hasn’t made any official announcement, but the location in question has quietly become the center of speculation.

The permit specifically references the circus tents in the Storybook Circus section of the park, pointing toward the area around Pete’s Silly Sideshow. This meet-and-greet has been a go-to spot for families since its debut, offering indoor character experiences with Minnie, Daisy, Goofy, and Donald in their circus outfits.
Construction Permit Raises Eyebrows
The contractor listed for the upcoming project is Birdair Inc., a company known for working with fabric and membrane roofing. Since the tents make up the main structure of Pete’s Silly Sideshow, this suggests a significant refurbishment rather than a simple refresh. Fans noticed earlier this month when banners at the location were swapped out for new ones, a subtle change that now feels more like the first hint of something bigger.
It’s unclear whether this project will require a complete closure or if the space will remain partially open during construction. But if past refurbishments are any indication, guests may want to visit sooner rather than later.

Why This Spot Matters
Pete’s Silly Sideshow isn’t the flashiest attraction in Magic Kingdom, but it has a lot of charm. It gives families a chance to meet multiple classic characters in a single location and provides a break from the Florida heat. Parents often stop here to regroup while kids enjoy some downtime at the picnic tables and coloring activities. Losing it, even temporarily, would create a noticeable gap in the guest experience.
No Timeline Yet
Disney has not revealed a timeline for when this work might begin or how long it could last. Some fans believe this is simply a roof replacement, while others wonder if it could signal something larger for the Storybook Circus area.
Until there’s an official announcement, Pete’s Silly Sideshow remains open. But with the new permit in place, the clock may be ticking. If you’ve been planning to meet Minnie, Daisy, Goofy, or Donald under the big top, this might be the time to make it happen.
