A Disneyland Staple Just Got a Major Upgrade, and the Backstory Is Wild
Big news for anyone who loves grabbing a sandwich at Downtown Disney. Earl of Sandwich officially opened its new permanent location, and the old temporary spot is officially closed for good.
The new location is on the west side of Downtown Disney, and it’s already open for business even though the official grand opening isn’t until July 15, 2026. So if you’re heading there before then, you can still stop in and grab your usual order.
What’s New This Time
This isn’t just a basic relocation either. The new spot is a lot bigger in scope than the old one. There’s now a pastrami carving station called The Carvery where you can actually watch them slice it, plus The Pub, which is a dedicated area for beer, wine, frozen cocktails, and seasonal drinks.
The building also includes Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby upstairs, so this isn’t just a quick sandwich stop anymore. It’s become part of a bigger dining destination at Downtown Disney.
What Happened to the Old Pop-Up Spot at Disneyland
If you’ve been to Downtown Disney recently, you might’ve noticed that the pop-up Earl of Sandwich near the Star Wars Trading Post now has a “Location is Closed” sign out front. All the seating has been removed, too, so that spot is officially done.
That pop-up was already meant to be temporary, and it’s actually not the first Earl of Sandwich location to close at Downtown Disney either.
A Little History Here
Back in 2025, a different temporary Earl of Sandwich location, the one set up in the old La Brea Bakery space, closed for good too. That closure was a bigger deal than you’d think. Reports at the time said around 167 employees were being laid off as part of that shutdown, with the layoffs happening between July and August of that year.
That location had been filling in while Disney worked on building this new permanent spot. La Brea Bakery actually closed back in 2023, and Earl of Sandwich moved in temporarily while longer term plans got figured out. Eventually Disney filed a permit to tear down that old building, which is what led to that temporary location closing.
So basically, this new permanent Earl of Sandwich has been a long time coming, with a few temporary stops and a fair amount of behind-the-scenes change along the way.
Why This Matters for Downtown Disney
Downtown Disney has been changing a lot lately, with different stores and restaurants opening and closing as part of a bigger refresh. Disneyland itself is also getting some major expansions coming up, including new stuff for Avengers Campus and an Avatar-themed land, so it makes sense the dining and shopping district is getting some attention too.
Planning Your Disneyland Visit
If you’re heading to Downtown Disney soon, the new Earl of Sandwich is open now on the west side, with the official grand opening set for July 15. Just know the old pop-up spot near the Star Wars Trading Post is closed for good, so don’t go looking for it.
Whether you’re there for the classic sandwiches, the new carving station, or a drink at The Pub, this new spot is definitely worth checking out on your next trip.
