Disney World Finally Restores Iconic Hollywood Studios Area After Months of Construction

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has undergone plenty of changes recently, but one of the park’s most recognizable areas is finally starting to return to normal.

For months, visitors have encountered a noticeably different scene in a section of the park that usually provides a relaxing break from the crowds and busy attractions.

While Disney World regularly closes rides and other experiences for maintenance, this particular project involved an entire area that guests walk past every day.

Now, after nearly three months of refurbishment work, Disney has made significant progress toward restoring the familiar surroundings.

And with the Christmas season approaching, the timing couldn’t be better.

Disney World Finally Restores Echo Lake After Months of Work

Back in mid-August, Disney World drained Echo Lake at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to begin a refurbishment project involving several decorative features throughout the area.

The lake sits near popular experiences such as Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!, For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration, Hollywood & Vine, and 50’s Prime Time Café.

For longtime visitors, Echo Lake is a familiar part of Hollywood Studios. However, its appearance changed dramatically when Disney removed the water.

Instead of the usual waterfront scenery, guests encountered an exposed lakebed while crews worked on maintaining the surrounding features.

Fortunately, that unusual sight is finally disappearing.

According to WDW News Today, water began returning to Echo Lake on November 3, 2026.

Crews were spotted refilling the lake, although some sections contained more water than others.

While the process wasn’t entirely finished, the return of the water marked an important milestone in the refurbishment.

Disney World Refreshes Popular Hollywood Studios Landmarks

The project involved more than simply draining and refilling Echo Lake.

Over the past several months, Disney crews have repainted and refreshed several recognizable features throughout the area.

These include artificial logs, tree stumps, and other decorative elements that help create the lake’s atmosphere.

The S.S. Down the Hatch, which houses the Dockside Diner restaurant, also received attention during the refurbishment.

Perhaps the most recognizable feature involved in the project is Gertie the Dinosaur.

The enormous green dinosaur stands along Echo Lake and houses Dinosaur Gertie’s Ice Cream of Extinction.

Gertie has become a familiar landmark for Hollywood Studios visitors, making her refresh particularly noticeable to longtime Disney fans.

Although these improvements might seem relatively small compared to the park’s larger construction projects, they help maintain the familiar appearance that guests associate with Hollywood Studios.

And Disney isn’t finished preparing the area just yet.

Hollywood Studios Prepares for Christmas

The return of Echo Lake comes just as Disney World prepares to launch its holiday celebrations.

Each Christmas season, the area receives festive decorations, including a large Christmas tree positioned on the water.

According to WDW News Today, crews have already installed a metal bridge within Echo Lake to assist with setting up the tree.

The preparations come ahead of Disney Jollywood Nights, the separately ticketed Christmas celebration at Hollywood Studios.

Meanwhile, fans are also waiting for Gertie the Dinosaur to receive her traditional holiday makeover.

The dinosaur typically wears festive decorations during the Christmas season, including a Santa hat.

As of November 3, however, those decorations had not yet appeared.

Disney has not announced exactly when the remaining holiday decorations will be installed or when every part of the refurbishment will be complete.

Still, with water returning and Christmas preparations underway, Echo Lake is finally looking more like the familiar Hollywood Studios landmark visitors remember.

After months of construction and maintenance, that is welcome news for Disney fans heading into the holiday season.
