Disneyland Resets Expectations for Guests as Castle Reopening Pushed Back Over a Month

The bridge to Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Park (Paris) has been closed far longer than first promised, and even with the scaffolding gone, guests still can’t cross it. The European Disney destination has now missed its original target by more than a month, though a reopening looks close.

The bridge to Sleeping Beauty Castle closed for restoration in May, with plywood walls and scaffolding surrounding the iconic pink landmark. To limit the damage to vacation photos, Disneyland Paris Resort later hung a fabric scrim printed with an image of the castle.

The European Disney Resort originally said the bridge would reopen in “late September 2026.” That window came and went with the barriers still standing. On October 12, the park finally shared a first look at the refurbished structure, but access remained blocked.

The Finished Work

Cast members rebuilt the structure supporting the bridge’s decorative elements and replaced both the drawbridge deck and the wooden balustrade posts. The arch beneath the span was formed from 2,735 individual granite blocks, and the old stamped concrete was swapped for waterproof granite paving that the resort says looks better and is easier to maintain.

A new compass rose of natural stone and brass now accents the bridge. Its blue and red sections are joined by a green arc, with colors and motifs inspired by the three fairies from Sleeping Beauty (1959): Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. A brass medallion bearing Princess Aurora’s crown sits at the center.

On October 29, X user @DLPReport shared photos showing the scaffolding and construction walls had been removed, giving the clearest view yet of the finished bridge. The post read:

🔧 Scaffolding is down at the Sleeping Beauty Castle bridge, but it remains closed for now. Looks fantastic!

The walkway is expected to open before the Disney Enchanted Christmas festivities begin on November 7. In a follow-up, @DLPReport wrote:

Yes it should open this week.

Disneyland Paris Resort hasn’t confirmed an exact reopening date for the bridge to Sleeping Beauty Castle.
