Universal Orlando Resort offers some incredible experiences for Harry Potter fans, but enjoying everything the Wizarding World has to offer isn’t always as simple as purchasing a theme park ticket.
In fact, one of the resort’s most recognizable Harry Potter attractions comes with an additional admission requirement that can make an already expensive vacation cost even more.
Now, an upcoming November closure is drawing attention to that requirement and raising an important question for families: What happens when the attraction that convinced you to purchase a more expensive ticket isn’t operating?
It’s a situation some Universal Orlando guests could face very soon.

Hogwarts Express Will Close November 4
Universal Orlando has confirmed that Hogwarts Express will temporarily close on November 4, 2026, with operations currently scheduled to resume November 5.
The attraction transports guests between Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida.
For many visitors, Hogwarts Express is an essential part of experiencing The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Guests can walk through King’s Cross Station, board the famous train, and experience scenes inspired by the Harry Potter stories during their journey.
It’s more than transportation between theme parks. For families who have spent years watching the films or reading the books, boarding Hogwarts Express can be one of the most memorable parts of their vacation.
However, experiencing that journey requires something beyond standard single-park admission.
Universal’s Park-to-Park Requirement Creates a Problem
Universal Orlando requires guests to have Park-to-Park admission to ride Hogwarts Express.
Visitors with single-park tickets cannot use the attraction, even if they only want to experience the train without spending time in the second park.
As a result, families who consider Hogwarts Express a must-do attraction may purchase more expensive Park-to-Park tickets specifically to experience it.
That’s where the November 4 closure becomes frustrating.
Guests who already purchased admission for that date won’t be able to ride Hogwarts Express if the scheduled closure takes place.
Their Park-to-Park tickets will still provide access to both Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, but one of the biggest reasons some visitors purchase that admission option will temporarily disappear.
Of course, Universal doesn’t guarantee that every attraction will operate every day. Refurbishments and unexpected closures are part of visiting any major theme park.
Still, there’s a difference between losing access to an ordinary attraction and losing an experience that requires a particular ticket type.
For families visiting for just one day, rescheduling might not be possible.

Epic Universe Adds Another Layer of Confusion
The situation becomes even more complicated when considering Universal Orlando’s newest theme park.
Epic Universe opened in May 2025, introducing The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic.
That means Universal Orlando now offers three separate Wizarding World destinations across three theme parks.
However, Hogwarts Express only connects Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. It doesn’t travel to Epic Universe.
Guests hoping to experience every Harry Potter location must carefully choose tickets that provide admission to the parks they want to visit.
And with different admission options available, understanding exactly what a ticket includes has become increasingly important.
For first-time visitors, it’s easy to see how the additional planning could become overwhelming.
Should Universal Do More for Park-to-Park Guests?
Universal has publicly listed the scheduled Hogwarts Express closure, giving visitors an opportunity to adjust their plans.
However, the situation raises a larger question about how theme parks communicate attraction closures to guests purchasing premium admission options.
If a family is paying extra specifically to experience Hogwarts Express, shouldn’t the attraction’s scheduled downtime be made especially clear during the ticket-buying process?
That doesn’t necessarily mean Universal should offer refunds whenever an attraction closes. Park-to-Park tickets provide access to multiple parks, regardless of whether the train operates.
But clearer communication could help guests avoid disappointment, especially when they are planning expensive vacations around specific experiences.
For now, visitors planning to travel November 4 should prepare to move between Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure using the regular park entrances.
Hogwarts Express is currently expected to reopen November 5, although schedules remain subject to change.
Ultimately, the closure is only scheduled to last one day. But it exposes a much bigger concern for theme park visitors: paying more for a particular experience doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get to enjoy it.
