Rest days at Disney’s Contemporary Resort just got easier to plan. The hotel’s children’s splash pad, which disappeared behind barriers with no heads-up for families, has returned with a refreshed look, just in time for the holiday crowds.

For parents of younger guests, an amenity like this is often the backbone of a mid-afternoon break, a place for little ones to cool off and burn energy without anyone leaving the hotel. So when it went quiet, the absence was felt, particularly since Disney offered no advance public notice and no reopening date for families with reservations on the books.
Per WDW News Today, the refurbishment started with a maintenance closure in September, and water is once again flowing through the play area’s interactive features. Returning guests will spot the difference right away. The central structure, once light blue with gold spots and a gold bucket on top, now sports various shades of blue, with its circles and bucket switched to dark gray. WDWNT added that flooring and plumbing may have been refreshed where needed.
While it was closed, crews worked across several parts of the space. Plastic-covered sections of floor and several pillars, and the water shooters and shorter pillars also received surface prep and apparent repainting. The work looked largely cosmetic, though Disney never confirmed its full scope.
The splash pad could hardly have picked a livelier week to come back. Over at Magic Kingdom, October 31 brings the curtain down on fall and Halloween decor and celebrations, and the holiday season takes over from November 1. Staying at the Contemporary, with its walkway to the park, means a front-row seat to one of the year’s biggest transformations.

One amenity reopening doesn’t make the resort construction-free. The Contemporary has been in a multi-phase refurbishment since September 2024, with work expected to run through late 2027. Areas touched include the Main Tower and its exterior, exterior panels and balconies, the atrium, Bay Lake Tower, and parts of the fourth-floor observation deck. Scaffolding, coverings, restricted areas, and daytime work may still be part of your stay. Disney hasn’t said whether the splash pad project was connected to the greater effort.
The Contemporary is still one of Walt Disney World’s most recognizable properties, from its A-frame Main Tower to the monorail gliding through the building and the easy walk to Magic Kingdom. Now the splash pad is back on the menu for mid-day downtime, too. With the holidays arriving on November 1 and refurbishment continuing into late 2027, it’s worth checking official Disney resort updates before you go, since conditions around the property may keep shifting.
