After CEO Said They Overuse Parks and Don’t Spend Enough, Disney Announces Gift for Passholders

Disneyland Resort has a present for its most devoted fans. Magic Key Passholders can collect four free lenticular trading cards honoring 25 years of the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay, and the offer lands just days after a former Disney executive’s remarks about frequent visitors made headlines.

A Timely Thank-You

Earlier this week, former Disney CEO Bob Chapek revealed that he once considered eliminating the Magic Key program. In his telling, Annual Passholders used the Southern California Disney parks too often and spent too little money. Disneyland Resort has now announced a keepsake made exclusively for those same guests, a pointed contrast for a program that was once on the chopping block.

The Haunted Mansion Holiday Overlay

Since 2001, Disneyland Resort has dressed up the original Haunted Mansion before each Halloween and Christmas season with a festive overlay inspired by Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). The tradition paused in 2020 while the Southern California Disney Resort was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and then returned in 2021. This year’s version opened on August 21.

The collectible set borrows its artwork from the four transforming portraits inside the Stretching Room of the Haunted Mansion Holiday:

  • Jack Skellington
  • The exterior of the Haunted Mansion
  • Zero pulling Santa Jack’s sleigh
  • Sally

How and When to Pick Them Up

The first card is available on Monday, October 26, and comes with a frame for displaying the collection. Fresh designs arrive on Mondays, November 2, November 9, and November 16. The cards can be collected through November 21.

Passholders can pick up their cards during regular operating hours at these spots:

  • Kingswell Shop at Disney California Adventure Park
  • WonderGround Gallery in the Downtown Disney District

Guests must present a valid Magic Key Pass to pick up their gifts. There is a limit of one display frame and one of each card design per Passholder.
