After 14 Years of Magic, Disneyland Confirms Overhaul of Original Cars Land Area
A Cars Land gift shop has finally reopened at Disney California Adventure Park after a refurbishment that ran well past its original schedule, and the result is a lightly refreshed version of a familiar stop in Radiator Springs.
A Closure That Kept Growing
Radiator Springs Curios, the merchandise location in Cars Land, closed on September 12 for what appeared to be a refurbishment. Disneyland Resort initially suggested the rustic shop would return in “late September.” By early October, though, it was still closed, with plywood construction barriers and scrim fabric surrounding the entrance.
Disney cast members reportedly told guests that the Cars (2006)-inspired store was temporarily closed so crews could renovate and update its roof and patio. The delay left shoppers wondering how much work was actually underway.
The Shop Reopens
On Tuesday, October 6, WDWNT reported that Radiator Springs Curios had reopened after the weeks-long project. The outlet shared the first look at the gift shop with the barriers and scrim gone.
Beyond the promised roof and patio updates, Disneyland Resort doesn’t appear to have made any major changes. The store still displays wooden signs reading “Radiator Springs Curios,” “Rare Hubcaps,” “Western Junk,” “Fossils,” and “U Want It We Got It,” along with Route 66-inspired road signs and gas advertisements.
Decorative pieces have returned to the entrance as well, including vintage gas pumps, rusted barrels, plants, and wooden fences. The theming looks unchanged, although some items may have been restored if the sun or weather had damaged them.
Current Status of Radiator Springs Curios
As of Wednesday, October 7, Disneyland Resort’s website and mobile app list Radiator Springs Curios as open for regular business. The shop operates from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on most days. Hours can change, so guests should check the app before heading to Cars Land.
