Disney World Starts Finishing Work on Monsters Inc. Land, Opening Planned for 2027

Disney World is starting to add some of the details that will eventually welcome guests into its newest land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Monstropolis remains under construction, and there is still significant work to complete before guests can explore the Monsters Inc.-themed area.

But the project is starting to look a little less like a construction site.

One of the latest developments is happening at the Glob Theater, where Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a permit to install new signage.

It’s a relatively small addition compared to the massive door coaster being built nearby, but it represents an important step toward getting part of Monstropolis ready for its planned 2027 opening.

Disney Is Adding the Details Guests Will See

The Glob Theater occupies the former home of Muppet*Vision 3D.

Scaffolding around the theater was mostly removed in August, and supports for its new marquee could be seen on the building.

Now, Disney is moving ahead with signage.

The new marquee and clock tower will feature decorations inspired by monster eyes, while plans also call for a banner on the tower.

These are the kinds of additions that can make a major difference during the final stages of a theme park transformation.

Heavy construction might create the buildings, but signage, decorations and other themed elements are what turn those structures into part of Monstropolis.

The theater itself will eventually host Welcome to Monstropolis! With Sulley & Mike, featuring a new song from Randy Newman.

Don’t Expect the Entire Land at Once

There’s one major catch with the 2027 opening.

Disney has already confirmed that Monstropolis will open in phases.

Most of the land is expected to open first, while the door coaster will debut later. That means guests could potentially enter Monstropolis before its biggest attraction is ready.

It also changes how we should look at construction progress.

Disney doesn’t necessarily need the coaster completed before it can finish areas such as the Glob Theater and prepare other sections for guests.

We’re still several months away from 2027, and Disney hasn’t announced a specific opening date for the first phase.

At this point, we’d continue watching mid-to-late 2027 as a possible window, though that remains an estimate rather than an official Disney timeframe.

What we do know is that visible progress continues.

A marquee and new signage won’t generate the same excitement as seeing coaster vehicles running through the door vault, but they’re meaningful pieces of the finished land.

For fans who have watched this corner of Disney’s Hollywood Studios undergo a massive transformation, that’s good news.

There is plenty left to build, and the door coaster will require additional patience. But with permanent details beginning to arrive, Monstropolis is another step closer to becoming a real place guests can explore in 2027.
