After 6 Months of Construction, Disney Reveals New Look for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
After half a year of construction, Walt Disney World Resort has finally started pulling scaffolding away from the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, giving guests their very first glimpse of the Disney’s Hollywood Studios attraction’s newly refurbished exterior.
A Six-Month Journey
The refurbishment dates back to March, when Walt Disney World Resort filed a construction permit for the attraction. By May, crews had already refurbished portions of the outdoor queue, followed by the removal of decorative flags above the gift shop and the installation of protective scrim around parts of the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade, shielding those areas ahead of heavier construction work.
Scaffolding first appeared on the building’s exterior in July, initially spotted above the gift shop. Over the following months, that scaffolding steadily expanded around the front of the structure, eventually reaching the very top of the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade just this week, covering the area containing the ride’s iconic elevator shafts.
Throughout the project, Walt Disney World Resort has appeared focused on repainting the building, with sections of bright pink paint gradually emerging as construction progresses. The process involves applying a base coat first, followed by additional layers designed to give the structure its signature aged, haunted appearance.
Guests Get Their First Look
WDWNT reported on September 16 that Disney cast members had removed a small section of scaffolding above the gift shop and near the attraction’s exit — the same spot where construction first began back in July.
As anticipated, the newly revealed section shows fresh pink paint complete with intentional cracks and weathering effects. Guests can also spot a few square patches where a layer of yellow paint peeks through beneath the pink, offering a hint at the technique likely used across the rest of the building as more scaffolding comes down.
The Ride Remains Open
Despite the extensive exterior work, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror has continued operating normally throughout construction. Walt Disney World Resort has not announced any plans to close the ride for refurbishment.
