Epic Universe will enter its third year of operation in 2027, and by then, plenty of Universal Orlando guests will know exactly what they want to experience.
That could also be part of the problem.
Some of the park’s biggest attractions continue to draw serious demand, while Florida weather can make an already complicated park day even harder to predict. Throw in expensive Express Pass options, and visiting Epic Universe may still require considerably more planning than simply walking through the gates and choosing your next ride.
Here are four potential problems guests should have on their radar heading into 2027.
Mine-Cart Madness Remains Difficult to Time
Mine-Cart Madness gives Super Nintendo World one of the most unusual coaster experiences at Universal Orlando.
The Donkey Kong attraction creates the illusion that riders are jumping over broken sections of track, bringing a familiar element from the video games into the real world.
Unsurprisingly, plenty of guests want to ride it.
The problem is that Mine-Cart Madness doesn’t have the capacity to quickly handle everyone who wants to experience it. Long lines have become common, with the attraction frequently ranking among Epic Universe’s longest waits.
Operational interruptions can make matters worse.
The coaster is vulnerable to weather and can also experience downtime when conditions outside appear perfectly fine. That makes the strategy of waiting for a shorter line later in the day less dependable.
Guests who really want to ride may be better off treating Mine-Cart Madness as a priority instead of assuming they’ll eventually catch it with a short wait.
Weather Can Completely Rearrange Your Day
Florida thunderstorms aren’t exactly a new challenge for theme park visitors, but Epic Universe has a large number of attractions that can be affected by bad weather.
Constellation Carousel, Curse of the Werewolf, Dragon Racer’s Rally, Fyre Drill, Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, Mine-Cart Madness, Stardust Racers, and Yoshi’s Adventure all have outdoor elements that leave them vulnerable to weather interruptions.
That can quickly remove several options from your itinerary.
The remaining indoor rides don’t suddenly become easier to experience, either. Guests looking for something to do may head toward Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, or Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry.
As a result, one storm can affect wait times across much of the park.
Guests visiting in 2027 should still prepare for their plans to change quickly, particularly during Florida’s stormier months.
Harry Potter Crowds Could Get Another Boost
Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry already has little trouble attracting guests.
The Ministry of Magic attraction has produced some of Epic Universe’s longest waits, and Universal has sometimes needed to stop accepting additional guests into the line before the rest of the park closes.
That makes timing important.
Things could become even more interesting after the new Harry Potter television series premieres on Max in December 2026.
A new adaptation could renew interest in the Wizarding World just as Epic Universe enters 2027. If that excitement translates into additional theme park demand, Battle at the Ministry would be an obvious destination for fans.
Whether the show noticeably affects attendance remains to be seen, but the ride doesn’t need much help creating long waits.
Express Pass Comes With a Big Price
Guests who don’t want to spend hours in standby lines have another option.
Universal Express Pass includes many major Epic Universe attractions, including Mine-Cart Madness, Stardust Racers, Monsters Unchained, Mario Kart, and Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry.
But convenience comes at a substantial cost.
Epic Universe Express Pass starts at $199 per person and uses dynamic pricing, so some dates can cost even more.
At the starting price, a family of four would spend $796 just for Express access. Regular park admission isn’t included in that number.
That means families planning their 2027 vacations may have to decide between spending considerably more money or accepting potentially lengthy standby waits.
Epic Universe should continue to be one of Orlando’s biggest draws in 2027. But its third year won’t necessarily eliminate the problems guests have encountered.
A flexible plan, smart attraction priorities, and some patience could still make a major difference.
