Disney World Could Bring Forgotten Polynesian Location Back to Life After Years

One of the more forgotten locations at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort could be getting ready for another chapter.

Walt Disney World has filed a new permit involving Tangaroa Terrace, a standalone building located outside the Great Ceremonial Hall. The location once welcomed Disney World vacationers but has spent its more recent years serving a very different purpose.

Disney isn’t saying exactly what’s next.

However, the paperwork gives the company plenty of time to make changes.

A Former Guest Location Gets Disney’s Attention

Tangaroa Terrace hasn’t always been hidden from the average Disney World vacation.

The building once operated as a buffet restaurant. Disney later transformed it into the Neverland Club, where it served as a children’s activity center.

Its role eventually changed again.

Most recently, Tangaroa Terrace has been used as a break area for cast members, taking a building that once served vacationing families largely out of the regular guest experience.

Now, a newly filed Notice of Commencement shows Disney is preparing work at the location.

KHS&S is listed as the contractor, while Disney’s Facility Asset Management division is connected to the project. The filing describes the scope broadly as “general conditions.”

More importantly, it runs through December 31, 2027.

What Could Disney Be Planning?

The extended timeline naturally raises questions about how much work Disney intends to complete.

Facility Asset Management projects typically involve infrastructure and upkeep, which means the permit alone isn’t confirmation that Disney is creating a new restaurant, lounge, or other guest experience.

Walt Disney Imagineering is more commonly associated with projects involving new guest offerings.

Even so, Facility Asset Management projects have crossed into that territory before.

That leaves Tangaroa Terrace’s future open to several possibilities.

Disney could renovate the building while keeping its current purpose. It could make broader infrastructure improvements. Or the company could eventually decide to return the location to guest use.

Disney hasn’t confirmed which direction it will take.

An Interesting Location Near Magic Kingdom

Tangaroa Terrace’s location makes the project even more intriguing.

The standalone building sits outside the Great Ceremonial Hall at the Polynesian, putting it at one of Walt Disney World’s most popular resorts and within easy reach of Magic Kingdom.

If Disney eventually turns the building back into a guest destination, it would revive a space with decades of history rather than build something completely new.

For now, guests shouldn’t expect Tangaroa Terrace to suddenly reopen.

But after years of operating outside the regular guest experience, Disney has officially put the location back on the construction radar.

And with the permit remaining active through the end of 2027, this could be a project worth watching for quite some time
