September has brought Halloween Horror Nights back to Universal Orlando Resort, but the seasonal event isn’t the only reason guests could find themselves leaving the theme parks earlier this month.
Universal’s September operating calendar includes noticeably early closing times across Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe.
In some cases, regular guests will need to leave a park by 5:00 p.m. And even visitors heading elsewhere around Universal Orlando may not find the late-night park hours they expected.
Universal Studios Florida Closes at 5 P.M.
Halloween Horror Nights creates the biggest change.
On event evenings, Universal Studios Florida closes to regular daytime visitors at 5:00 p.m. Universal then transitions the park for Halloween Horror Nights, which requires separate admission.
Guests without an event ticket can’t simply stay inside.
Experienced Universal visitors may already expect that schedule during September and October. What makes September 2026 more interesting is that the other parks aren’t consistently staying open late.
Islands of Adventure Isn’t Picking Up the Extra Hours
Heading next door might seem like the obvious solution.
However, Islands of Adventure is scheduled to close at 8:00 p.m. through much of September.
There are also a couple of 7:00 p.m. closings, while September 23 stands out with an unusually early 6:00 p.m. shutdown.
That can significantly change how guests approach their vacation.
Long operating days give families time to take afternoon breaks, eat leisurely meals or return to their hotel before coming back at night. Earlier closures compress those plans into a much smaller window.
They can also reduce opportunities to experience Islands of Adventure after sunset.
Epic Universe Also Has Shorter Evenings
Universal’s newest park doesn’t completely solve the problem.
Epic Universe is scheduled to close at 8:00 p.m. on most September evenings.
That’s particularly notable because nighttime has become a major part of the Epic Universe experience since the park opened in May 2025.
Its illuminated portals, fountains and themed worlds create an atmosphere guests can’t fully experience during daylight hours. An 8:00 p.m. closing can leave a fairly small window to see everything after sunset.
September Visitors Need to Plan Ahead
Universal doesn’t need to keep every theme park open until midnight, and operating schedules can change based on numerous factors.
But the September calendar makes planning ahead especially important.
Halloween Horror Nights guests will have plenty of late-night entertainment at Universal Studios Florida. Regular daytime visitors face a different situation.
With 5:00 p.m. closings at Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure shutting down as early as 6:00 p.m., and Epic Universe frequently closing at 8:00 p.m., September visitors may have fewer nighttime park hours than they expected.
